Hi all

There are two suspicious sounds coming from the climate control unit/centre console when air is being blowed

1. High-pitched/frequency (but not loud) noise - like the edge of a metal peice being sanded:dk:? It comes for about 10 secs and dissapears, then re-appears after a few minutes or even less (1 minute or so)

2. Whining noise - like a supercharger but more quiter and dull pitched and this sound only comes when the car is being accelerated

I suspect these sounds are related to the blower motor or something similar

Any advice/fixes would be great.

I think I get the first one in mine sometimes. Comes and goes. I presume it is the fans but doesn't trouble me (I listen to music).

Not sure about the second one - I get that noise though but it is the other blower!

We occasionally get a low level 'whistle' from around the passenger side air vent; also experienced it on our last W211 so I'm beginning to think it's a feature of these cars.

the whining noise- do you have a cable plugged into the aux in in the glove box?

the high pitched sounds- unfortunately with more and more nylon and plastic bits- lots of weird and wonderful noises are prone to develop in our w211s :-(
worth making sure all the louvres are fully open though (especially the rear ones) as half shut louvres can make that noise...

Thanks for reply guys and noted comments

rascalmaster - there is nothing plugged into the aux socket.

My main concern is for any moving parts that may be rubbing against another surface because logically there should be no odd sounds. The whining sound is really annoying because it wrecks the sweet sound of the v6 turbo diesel in the cabin
