Before I take a look at this thought I'd just ask if anyone else has come up against this problem before.

I have the E series 2004 plate with the electric folding heated mirrors. Fold function opperates as it should but the drivers mirror always looses it's position, you can hear and see the glass being driven upwards until is clicks a few times and then stops. Pressing the memory button does not return it to the right position either.

Each time it does this I have to position it again and save the setting. The memory setting works fine, I can move both mirrors and press the memory button and they go back to the correct position. It seems to just happen when trying to fold the mirror back.

Any ideas? :dk:

Possible dirty/corroded contacts on the buttons.....have they ever got wet? just a guess

The buttons have never got wet as far as I know and it has always had this fault since I bought the car over 2 years ago. It's only the drivers side as well the passenger mirror does what it should, folds out into the correct position.

One thing I noticed this week having folded the mirror for the first time in ages. As I sat in the car engine running while I set the GPS I heard the drivers mirror move. I hadn't pressed anything, the mirrors were still folded in and when I did press the button they folded out with the drivers one tilted up in the wrong position.

I had similar fault on a VW Passat, drivers mirror kept moving until battery was flat, turned out to be electric window motor!!

How on earth did they manage to trace that fault..........!

I did a quick test on my car this morning to see if the memory is tied into the key used in case this was being lost or corupted in any way. Had this feature on a Ford many years ago. Anyway the mirrors both stayed in their wrong positions until I pressed setting 1 and then they went to their correct position.

I'm beginning to wonder now if it could be a break in the wiring as it only happens when the mirrors are folded in, it happens everytime so maybe I can see or trace the break. With the cover off I can see if there is anything behind the mirror that is affecting the position as well. Maybe when it folds in the loom or something pushes the back of the glass or gets caught on something.

Had to get the dealer to sort it, could be as you say...
