What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

One of my cars just turned 3 years old so some of the online MercedesMe services were deactivated today.

I went online to renew them, and my goodness it was eye wateringly expensive, even more than I expected!

Still, it’s sorted now, back to business as usual.

I was considering the same. Mine was 3 between Christmas and New year, and I've not done that much driving to miss the Mercedes Me features (like you walk away from it in a car park and it reminds you you forgot to lock it!). Had a look today. The best part of £150 for another 3 years. Wow.

Say it quickly and it's a pound a week, I guess.

The new ball joint & arm has transformed the car. It's back to how it was when I got it. Rock solid on the motorway, surprisingly easy to place on the twisties given its size & weight.

The slightly annoying thing is that I drove around all last summer wondering where the strange disembodied clonk was coming from. From the diver's seat it actually sounded like it was coming from half way down the passenger side rather than from the front left corner. At one point I convinced myself it was coming from the roof-mounted bike rack I had on all summer. On my 202's and 211 it the noise that failing suspension rubbers made was always very obvious. I guess the engineers did a good job on the 212 isolating that sort of thing from the cabin.

Anyway, happy days. Just booked a week away in Wiltshire and another on the Isle of Wight.

I'm not sure why it was thought a good idea to fit those plastic undertrays - great for lowering drag(maybe), but also perfect for trapping all the crud off the road. The return fold on the sills of my car were solid with mud, held in place only by the lip on the undertray. As well as a faceful of dust, at least it gave me a chance to check out the brake lines and rear subframe, which all look OK. Happy days☺️
I did both cars the other day and cleaned the brake lines up that get hidden with all that crud , sprayed them all with ACF50 to preserve them

For everything apart from one service, mine was just about £500 for three years. Eye watering but closed my eyes and clicked!

The service I didn’t buy was to show available parking spaces (and pricing) on the COMAND satnav screen.

If I remember right that was £79 for three years and I don’t think I’ll ever park where spaces are monitored in that car.

A quick clean of the front callipers to stop the engrained dirt rot until I can get to them fully. Happy with the results.....before and after below. Done with brake fluid and chrome polish3902E672-BEBE-439D-B7B2-1E1EE34365AF.jpeg3879BBE6-D833-477B-8607-E990740A6787.jpeg

Had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S MO1 tyres fitted, replacing a set of Pirelli Pzero. Had a short drive, but still scrubbing them in. They didn’t skip at all which was a good sign. Four wheel alignment to sort next.
Well today was my first drive with the much lauded Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S since fitting and having the wheel alignment adjusted. They replaced 2 year old Pirelli PZero.

I wish I was a good enough driver to notice the difference in driving dynamics between the MPS4S (tyre aficionados seem to like the abbreviations) and the PPZ (did it again).

So I have no idea how much better they really are. They’re a little louder, they throw up a lot more stones and grit, and they were reassuringly expensive. They look really nice too. No regrets.

Summer wheels now back on............

Hi , great wheels but how did obtain the shine on your car.

Finished washing and vacuuming the car at around 1.30pm. Since that time I have had to wash Seagull poo off of it twice. It seems the poo season is now in full swing

Always happens, its like they sit and wait until you finish and then strike

Off topic but I can't believe they are charging so much for this. This should at most be a one of cost

Bmw connected drive prices are even higher then Mercedes Me.

map updates starting from £79 per year.

Hi. I am one of them saddos who read detailing world. 📖

Twice a year I deep "clean and gleam" each car. This particular car.........
  1. started with usual wash but using a thin dilution of washing up liquid
  2. clay cloth whilst wet over entire paintwork (solely water ie no special products)
  3. when fully dry run over the worst areas (scratch/swirl/cobwebs) with a Dual Action polisher using Scholl Concepts S3
  4. Then over then whole paintwork with Scholl Concepts S40
  5. Finally 1 coat of Dodo Juice wax
I do not necessary IPA between products.
Always use decent microfibre cloths.
Invest in some decent pads for the polisher.
Take your time (think this one took 6 hours inc leisure breaks).

The 5 spoke wheels/tyres are Kiwi shoe shine specials
The 7 spoke wheels/tyres are Autosmart Highstyle
Glass is cleaned with Autosmart Glass Glow
Plastics were not detailed.
Alloys simple wiped over (I seal them with Poorboys Wheel Sealant once a year).

Maintenance washes via 2-bucket using Meguairs Gold Class shampoo.

This is my 500miles/week car and it will get some proper love in the summer. The March clean was simply to get it somewhere close to where I am happy.

Replaced missing rubber mount on one of the adaptive shocks on the E55, no more knocks now, a cheap fix for once. Put all the boot upholstery back after fixing a water leak.

Clearly excellent results. Nice to glean others success, and the variations in materials being used cleverly. I have a fair amount of success following a more simple method that suits my aged body 🤣🤣 and still nervous about using the clay mit I recently purchased for the first time 🤔😳
Wheels/tyres are my nemesis. I like the idea of Kiwi shoe shine, I’ll give that a whirl. 👍

Mine just turned 3 as well , I think I can live without Mercedes Me . It was a good gimmick for free but not worth what MB are asking for renewal.
