What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Fastest and most traffic-free day-time trip I’ve ever had heading North from from North Devon to the Midlands. The lack of traffic enabled a very respectable 22.2 MPG too.

The roads were very very quiet today, a complete contrast to Saturday morning (heading South) when the M5 was as busy as any Saturday morning on bank holiday weekend.

We stopped at Gloucester Services at dinner time this evening, and it was “lockdown” quiet. Maybe 15 tables occupied all eating, almost in silence. So strange to experience.

Always stop at Gloucester services when I head to Devon from the Midlands, and on the way back too. Just love the sausage rolls from the butcher's there.

We very rarely stop there, as we’d usually just stop for a toilet break and pick up a drink - Starbucks is our preferred purveyor of hot and iced drinks so we’d usually stop elsewhere along the journey.

However if needing to eat a proper meal, the Gloucester is probably one of the best services in the UK. The food is a cut above the rest and there are some genuinely healthy options too.

Spent many many hours on Sunday fiddling on with the 3 adjustment nuts on the rear quarter window of my R171 which never really closed and sealed properly. Swearing , trial and error, Gummi Fledge and WD/40 ultimately seemed to prevail with the window sitting higher and further forward (in the second pic, the blue tape was originally one piece). I still need to replace the outer weatherstrip which allows water down onto the locking mechanism, but that's one for another day (as sadly, rather expensive for a couple of feet of rubber seal!)

Two new Goodyear Efficient grip tyres on the CLK front . I don’t think 3 Mont Ventoux circuits helped the edge wear .
Had a rear squeak from the CLK on and off for a couple of years , so today I ordered rear shocks , rear springs , arb bushes, arb drop links as a treat for the old girl , now on 94k .

Hi , many of the locals do go food shopping at the Gloucester services.
They do have some lovely produce there. That said £23.90 for a jar of pickled onions is a little pricey though!

Went out for a drive on some of my favourite roads. We had breakfast at the first stop, met the outlaws for a drink at the second stop, and I’m now sat in the car waiting for my wife who’s trying to find some fresh bread for steak sandwiches when we get back.

Much better than gardening and tidying the house which is what I should actually be doing today…

Bit the bullet and washed the car, then machine polished it with the Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic polish & wax I had in.

We're still (!) under a hosepipe ban and Southern water have apparently said that they have no plan or even intention to remove it, so wait no longer could I.

£2/3mins with the high pressure lance at the local garage (800 yards away) then at it with the usual plus watering cans of rinse of water inc a final rinse of de-hardened water.
The machine polished on wax should be it's winter protection.

Did find a number of stone chips though annoyingly.....
