What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

I took one for a 100-mile round-trip weather-appropriate B-road blast to check and top up my Mom & Dad’s tyre pressures. Whilst there I filled the boot with huge storage boxes to bring home.

The roads are filthy and I now have a brown car, just like I wanted many years ago when Mrs D threatened to divorce me if I ordered a car in Macademia. Stunning colour that.

A car that can feel fun to drive, feel comfortable to be driven in, and big enough to transport a load bug and bulky items is rare thing. I’ll be holding on to this one, as I blooming love it.

Replaced the engine cover badge which has been missing since I bought the car. Much better. I also painted it with orange metallic heat proof paint to match the future caliper colour.

Two stage wash. Bit Hamber wheel cleaner + jetwash at the local filling station followed by hand wash of the rest of it on my drive with Autoglym shampoo.
Makes sense, leave the mud on the fire out rather than the driveway!

Late afternoon on a Sunday, the petrol station I used to go to would often have a line up of what I believe are call “greenlaners” or similar. Older SUVs with bodywork removed, suspensions lifted, wheels spilling way beyond the bodywork and many many many aerials and stickers.

The amount of thick mud and debris they left behind was mind blowing and they made no attempt to try and clean up after themselves. They ven more surprising was that the petrol station management didn’t seem to do anything to stop them.

Yeah I realised that my drive doesn't really have much of an incline and so all the the filthy black brake dust water was tending to pool on it.

Now I leave it all at the garage. Or, at least, in their drains.

Got the wheels refurbished in OEM finish on the C55 AMG [ hyper silver/ chrome paint the face of the wheels and diamond cut lip ]. They had been refurbished not long ago and were nearly immaculate [ apart from one wheel which had a small scratch ] but it was a normal silver finish including the lip and I didn't like that.
The place that refurbished the wheels were made aware how OCD I am and they were worried if they could get the finish I wanted but I'm impressed with the results

Now I’m afraid to fit them on the car 😆.
Pic's don't do the finish justice

This is how they looked before I sent them away.... Most people would have been happy as they were and I thought I could live with it as well but that didn't last more than 2 weeks 😆

I do jet washing, wheel cleaning and mud removal on the road as there is handy drain to rinse it all down.....after that it's all on done the drive.

I live on a cul-de-sac which is about as flat as my drive and the only drain is about 100yds away.

So, if my drive gets dirty I jetwash all the crap off which then just pools in the roadside.

If I leave it there it gets carried all over the street by passing cars.

So I have to laboriously hose and sweep it all 100 yds to the drain.

Alternatively, I can just clean my wheels at the filling station

I can't see the pics but know that on my C43s the wheel faces were brilliant silver and the lip had a diamond cut. When they were done properly they looked the business. Especially the rears with the deeper lip. OEM OCD matters.

The diamond cut lip makes such a difference 👍🏻

Like them, a lot! 😎🙂👍
That's a cracking job

Thank you all! 🙏
Nice to see others appreciate the little details :)

In my experience diamond cut finishes are not as fragile as is often suggested. I have diamond cut finishes on quite a few cars and as long as they’re not damaged by kerbs, stones or chemicals then they last well.

Anyone ought to be able to get say 5 years or 50,000 miles between re-cuts. Ultimately longevity also depends on the quality of the refurbishment, and a lasting finish requires a quality job.

The exception to that is when the face where the hub cap is inserted is also a diamond cut finish - inserting the cap removes the lacquer and the failure of the lacquer spreads to the face.

after the storm yesterday with 70mph winds and living on a small Island next to the Irish sea, i took it for a wash to get all the salt and sand off it, then I give it a bit of a polish, probably a waste of time as theirs more wind and rain coming  and im sure the seagulls will do their bit as well  Oh well.

Moved one into the sunshine and opened the roof after realising the cause of some condensation I had recently noticed on the windscreen. A can of Sprite had popped presumably due to the frost 👀

Just replaced the OEM belt after 75.000 miles and both pulleys, the idler pulley bearings where dry and noisy !!!!
so while ive got a dry sunny day ive removed the ESL from the column and cable tied it up out of the way, feck it was a fun 30 minuets on my back  the reason why is if its the original unit then its just a matter of time till it fails !!!!! i will be sorting an emulator out at some point and getting another key (only got one) ;)
