What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Paid for my first year of insurance... now looking for a private plate to hide its age (cheap plate) and considering buying brake discs for future use (they won't get cheaper)

Weds should be the big day.... can't wait

Took it to get the awful knocking / grinding sound that was coming from the rear-right fixed.

And it is now sorted - looks like someone had used the lower suspension mount as a jacking point at some stage in the past and bent the plate so it was rubbing / grinding.

They took it off, straightened it out and now there's no noise any more. £84. Result - could have been much much worse...

Had to call out a mobile locking wheel bolt removal service after one stripped. I’m annoyed with myself as I’d intended to swap them for normal bolts for quite some time 😡

Just done a map update after receiving an email suggesting that there was one available. I tend to do them via download onto a USB stick now as the OTA one seems to take forever, especially with my limited mileage.

The car's now on the ground after spending the last 6 months on the lift in the garage. It's been started and driven up and down my drive a few times but apart from that, it's not really moved. It will hopefully be out for a little run round on Monday once I tax it, I did try today but the Gov website won't let me tax it from the 1st April as yet, must be scared of me pinching a couple of days.

Up and out early this morning to take Mrs D to have her do done. That gives me a few hours to take in some scenic roads, have a coffee and browse MBClub, and took something topless which hasn’t seen much action lately.

After collecting her we went for a spirited drive around Derbyshire and the southern reaches of the Peak District. Strangely warm in the sunshine - hot even - despite being overcast and windy. It was dry though which is something of a novelty!

I booked mine in for an early service today as we’re driving up to Scotland for a road trip in a week or so. Really looking forward to another long trip in the E, about 1600 miles. Annoyingly it committed a negligent discharge and fired one of the spherical washer jets into space. I’m debating whether to just get TM motors to fit a new set of jets while they have it in for service. I’ve spent most of the day fiddling with the other cars so I’m fiddled out! (In the Abarth fitted a usb and usc charger with voltmeter in place of the cig lighter and fitted a silicon intake hose, new MAF and crank angle sensor on the Alfa and cleaned the CDA air filter, throttle reset)

Busy day!

Up and out early with Junior D, spending almost the whole day driving around the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales, with a few stops along the way.

The weather was absolutely shocking, with strong winds and heavy rain - as my gelato melted the wind was blowing it onto my chest! 😳

Even so the roof was down apart from the very worst downpours and in the slowest sections - keeping the speed up keeps the rain out.

Found that I can open my sunroof with my phone ... and perved at it a few times 😈

I've only owned a handful of cars that I couldn't help but just look at...

Maserati 4200 (hidden away right now)
Alfa Giulia
Mr2 1999 GT T BAR
CLK320 coupe

It's right up there for me. Not beautiful, just powerful, raw and a total beast.

A bit of fun/chance to share, and shamelessly plagiarised from the other side (currently running a c4000 posts).
If it's been done before, I couldn't find it.

Can it survive thread assassination on this side - who knows :dk:.

I'll begin:

Dropped it off for an A service/rear washer jet replacement.
I took my new to me A45S+ out in the rain and drove like a man possessed until I felt the car let go on a corner……… some poo came out and I drove home with sensible exuberance.

Gave Mrs AI's Captain Kirk a good wash and vacuum. Was planning a more throughout spring clean and polish.....but issues with the ALFA put pay to that.....for an 18 year old 77,000 mile car she's not far away from how she left the factory......
