I find a strange sense of pleasure when parking close to a car very similar to my own, and especially when it’s a polar opposite. Black and silver is pretty close!

The height difference was quite marked!....with his smaller wheels, high profile tyres and non sport suspension it looked like it was on stilts compared to mine! Each to there own though.

Waded through a flooded section of road today. It was a good opportunity to lift the suspension into its highest setting.

I do enjoy wading when there are no other cars around, but the number of people who seem to think that “as fast as possible” is the most appropriate wading speed makes it unpleasant when there are other drivers around.

Drove it in economy mode , trying for that elusive 70 mpg figure . Doubt I'll see it tbh.

A very car themed day today:
One received a new registration number;
Another received new wheels and tyres; and
And our non-MB EV received new all season tyres.

Yesterday I chucked the rubber overmats in and drove the family for a muddy Boxing Day stomp around Hampstead Heath followed by a pint in the Wells Tavern.

I then drove it home and put the trickle charger on. The car barely gets any use in December and when it does it's local trips. The battery needs a hefty top up.

It has proven to be a more car themed day than I had planned! Our ML was booked in for a service today - I had left it at our old house on Christmas Eve when I swapped it for Baby D’s first car (absurprise Christmas present).

Today I left home extra early to pick up the ML and then take for its service for the first 0830 appointment at the main dealer. It unlocked OK but the engine wouldn’t start, it didn’t even try to start, just a click and silence.

Unfortunately I didn't have a CTEK jump start pack in this car, but I do keep a CTEK charger in cars which we use a lot, so I hooked it up. An hour and a half later, it was the same story but all electronics had sprung back to life.

Concerned I’m case it might be more than a flat battery - and Mobilo cover expires today - I was keen to get it to the dealer, so I called Mobilo at 0930, and was told at 1030 that they wouldn’t be out until between 1300 and 1500 today.

To be fair, they probably considered me to be a low priority as I wasn’t stuck at the roadside and I hadn’t got any passengers with me - and above all, as far as Mercedes are concerned I was at home as it’s still our postal address.

I left it on the CTEK charger, and tried again at 1230 and thankfully it burst into life with a roar, and was at the dealer 20 minutes later. I kept the dealer informed so they were able to juggle jobs to get it on the ramps as soon as I arrived.

As they took it into the workshop I had one of those moments when you hear someone else start the engine - and see someone else driving your car, - and think “corrrr”. Even after 18 years I still love the way it looks and sounds.

There was one fault code, and that was a COMAND button that had been depressed for more than 120 seconds, so it’s possible that COMAND crashed and remained active drawing power when the engine was switched off.

The tech left it on charge for a while longer as it will have to start the engine a few times before I get it home and back on a CTEK charger. I’ve just been into the workshop with the workshop controller for a good look around. All looking good.

Blooming love this car.

I bought some DPF fuel additive just before Christmas.
Today we went to pick up our shopping from Tesco, then a few bits in Morrisons and on the way out
filled our car up with cheap diesel costing just shy of 111 quid then added the 7 quid worth of DPF
cleaner to the tank as well.
Then we took the car on to the dual carriageway near the shops
towards Greenwich - knocked down the gears and tried to hold
it had around 2000 revs plus and floored the car from every light and
roundabouts as I slowed right down even when they were clear and floored it.
I felt like a hooligan but I was careful no other cars were near me and as the road was
damp I was extra careful the Rainsport tyres help - noted loads of grey smoke
on flooring the car for the first 6/8 attempts and then none.
Drove the car for 30 mins or so - I did not check the mpg, but the fuel gauge needle has moved down
from full to the brim to close to just above 3/4's of a tank - It's been a good few
months since I'd drive it like that but it was all in the hope to help the DPF as we often do very short trips.

IMO, the DPF additive does bring the car up to temp more quickly as after a mile drive to Tesco, I noted DPF smoke

Cars really do benefit from the occasional “Italian tune-up” if they’re most driven gentky, and even more so if it’s mostly short urban journeys.
