What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Just replaced the OEM belt after 75.000 miles and both pulleys, the idler pulley bearings where dry and noisy !!!!
so while ive got a dry sunny day ive removed the ESL from the column and cable tied it up out of the way, feck it was a fun 30 minuets on my back  the reason why is if its the original unit then its just a matter of time till it fails !!!!! i will be sorting an emulator out at some point and getting another key (only got one) ;)
Just in time, the tension pulley let go at around 80K on CLK M272. No warning and the shredded belt caused more problems by wrapping it's self round crank shaft between block an pulley.

my tensioner pulley bearings where good and smooth but that doesn't mean they can't fail at any time !!!! but the idler bearings where shot and ready to collapse  the belt though looked good and have kept it for a back up. if its the one fitted when new its done well but it could of been changed years ago with a genuine one ? still one thing not to worry about :)

I live on a cul-de-sac which is about as flat as my drive and the only drain is about 100yds away.

So, if my drive gets dirty I jetwash all the crap off which then just pools in the roadside.

If I leave it there it gets carried all over the street by passing cars.

So I have to laboriously hose and sweep it all 100 yds to the drain.

Alternatively, I can just clean my wheels at the filling station

Yes, do at the car wash if very dirty - ie use jet wash yourself and then do the majority of work at your place.

I've been thinking about jet washing the underside of my car for over 3 years.
I had the car washed several months ago and should have
paid them extra to get the underside done. The last several years since I left work, on average the car gets washed once a year

Had the e250 s212 on ramps today had to deal with an issue with the splash shield.

But then the fun bit, was to let the BEAST out since last year. First better looking day in a while. Was fricking fantastic. God I love a V8 especially with 156 armour 💥😁

I took one for its MOT first thing this morning, which picked up damage to the inside side wall of a tyre, so I’ve ordered a fresh set of Pirelli PZero, to be fitted by Pirelli themselves on Tuesday. It’s nasty damage though so thankful it was picked up.

Fortunately I was planning to replace them anyway - and almost bought a new set for it in the Black Friday Sales - although perhaps it’s perhaps best that I didn’t as I’m not sure when the damage was done and could have damaged the new tyre.

I noticed that pricing on the few websites I checked has increased significantly even after taking current promotions into account. This
makes me think that: (a) some discounts were genuine; and (b) underlying prices have increased!

I guess that it's purely a summer car if you are fitting them!

Not all Pzeros are the same. In this fitment i don’t have any of the oft mentioned issues. I have a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S in the right size but decided against fitting them, in favour of the Pzero …now that’s an unusual statement! 😁

Today I removed the three undertrays and attacked the engine top and bottom with degreaser. After a gentle wash down with the jet wash it looks like new. There were traces of oil from the turbo pedestal gasket failure plus there was a small oil leak before I swapped put the turbo. Its a tiny leak near the front of the engine...as in two or three drops per week. Now it's clean it should be easier to find the source. I will leave the trays off for a few days to make it easier to find.

Good job, well done 👍🏻

Engine cleaning always reminds me of the late great Paul Ringway.

Pirelli states the PZero's are not to be driven below 45 degrees F (7c)..... thats enough to put me off. They were on my 159 when I got it..... soon got rid..... not at all suited to a hard driven daily. But each to their own.

I think most - or even maybe all - tyre manufacturers say that theiir summer tyres are recommended or optimised (or similar) for temperatures above 7 degrees C, and that their winter tyres are recommended ir optimised for temperatures below 7 degrees C, and as such you should alternate between two sets.

I’ve only really come across stronger wording with extreme tyres like Michelin Pilot Sport Ciup 2, and Michelin state that you should not use them at temperatures below -10 degree C. They will be almost un-drivable long before that so their tolerance threshold is surprisingly well below the point at which they become downright dangerous.

I’m a winter tyre fan, the difference they make is noticeable. If I plan to use a car in winter for more than an occasional quick spin to keep it from standing too long then it will have either a set of winter tyres or all season tyres. However 7 degrees C is a generic guideline used by the industry to simplify the switch rather than specific unit point.

Each tyre will have its own operating temperature window, independent of the 7 degrees C guideline, which is suitable for the most likely applications for that tyre size and revised further for manufacturer specified and homologated versions. PZero are generally designed for a warmer operating window, however they’re not all the same.

This is especially true when the same “sub brand” (like PZero) covers a huge range of models and applications. For example, a Pzero for a C 220 d will be different to a GLE 63 S, and both will be very different to a 650 S and Murcielago LP 640. You can guess which have the more accessible operating temperature windows.

Took one out for a sprin which I can’t remember driving apart from to and from the dealer for a repair in Novemberr. So it was long overdue. Blooming brake pads were rusted to the disks again, as it was parked after a detail, even tnough the Bilt Hambler stuff was applied to prevent it.

It was a pleasant afternoon, so it was wonderful having the roof down. Dry roads also mean that I could safely do some heavy braking to clean up those discs and pads. It made me realise how much I had missed driving it so I must make sure that it’s not so long next time.

Taking it to an event next weekend, so fingers crossed it’s another nice weekend 🤞🏻

Come on Ant, don't keep us in suspenders.
What's the replacement going to be?
