I'm always getting stick from my mates because they think a merc is an old mans car. I was just wondering about others that drive a Merc.

What sort of people visit this forum for instance ? Age, married, occupation etc ?

For instance, for me

Age = 35
Married, no children
IT consultant
household income = £50-60K

All sorts of pople drive Mercs, I'm 24, work in IT, the rest of my details are for me to know!

From GTG at Maff's I'd say there couldn't be a bigger mix of people!

29 yo, IT.

Always wanted one, always will.

I wouldn't say the "old mans car" stereotype applies any more. I certainly don't get any stick for driving one - on the contrary - most people are very impressed and several so impressed that they are thinking of getting one themselves.

Reasons for buying one, (apart from owning a prestige brand) is that I needed a car that I would keep for at least a few years - didn't want something that I would get bored of after a year and end up changing (as has been the case with my last few cars!), and wanted reliability, build quality, comfort, and some nice thoughtful features - all of which have proved themselves so far.

Really don't think income, age or family situation is a factor, to be honest - there are a wide range of mercedes available to suit all incomes & family sizes these days !! Unless you are buying brand new, they are as affordable as any other car on the road if well maintained.

Although I personally don't see the marque as an old man's car, I am slightly concerned by the amount of middle aged gentlemen who stare at me whilst driving. I hope they are admiring the car - or maybe they think I have just stolen it.

I certainly think the S-Class has a more conservative, middle-aged feel to it (sorry in advance to S-Class owners), and I would probably look a little out of place driving a hulking great S500 around at my age.

However, bottom line is I really don't mind what joe public thinks about my car - if I get stares from curious bystanders then I suppose it can only be a good thing.

my mates always take the mick out of me too, until i whip their sorry ar*es!

they say "here comes Alps in his dads car!"

I went to have a look at the Z4 when it was launched. The BMW salesman asked me what I currently had. When I told him, he replied "Isn't that an old man's car?" (great sales technique, i thought)

I got a Merc cos I always wanted one. :)

I think thats more a reflection of who uses on-line forums than of Mercedes drivers. Probably because we sit in front of computers all day with nothing else (well more interesting) to do.
