What to do when you find your old car on e-Bay and it's been clocked?!

Even if it is withheld in the auction view , haven't looked at the link but on many auctions it is visible , it will most certainly appear in the seller's feedback profile once either party leaves feedback for the transaction .

I agree trading standards should be involved asap - they will do the rest , possibly even involving a 'sting' by 'buying ' the vehicle themselves .

MOT history will also reveal the true mileage and this cannot be hidden or falsified .
Trading Standards should certainly be involved but I suspect that you would be underwhelmed by their lack of urgency. As for a "sting" - not a chance I'm afraid.

Can someone who has already texted him ask him to confirm the mileage?

The seller rang me and says he will call back with the chassis no

He sounds a bit shifty!

The full MOT history tells the full story , although the final two entries are all that is needed

Ah - beaten to it .

VOSA would be most interested in this , I think .

Have you seen the last two items he has had feedback on...as a buyer.

Hair growth shampoo and fake knuckle dusters.....hmmmm

What I want to know is this:

How can this happen - in this day and age - that VOSA/DVLA computer systems can't immediately flag that up as suspicious? The car has 'lost' 105,000 miles in 4 months!

Otherwise what is the point of computerising the whole MOT test system?

Ludicrous!

No one cares but i hope this chap gets caught.

And VOSA/DVLA are usually so efficient !!

Heres a thought. How about we get the seller to bring it along to Jay's GTG on Sunday and we 'inspect it' whilst someone calls the old bill?
A collective forum sting?
That will be fun!
What if Police were too busy with more important things like catching speeders?
If the eBay seller was not the original buyer, he may claim to be a victim.
Police? ......unlikely.
Trading standards? ......too many clockers around to be interested.
Dom of BBC?.... only a suggestion, especially if he was made aware of a forum community prepared to run with the cameraman.
but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I will see what happens in a few months as I replaced the speedo in my W126 to fix the intermittent cruise control ( think it was the sensor which in integral to the speedo on this model and not removable ) , but then I'm not selling the car , even though it has gone back from 168 K to 86 K .

I wonder what will happen to the car now though? It wasn't a bad car, everything worked (except for the keyless driver's door handle), considering the mileage. Bit of a shame someone had to mess up the mileage.

This is also something certain elements of the press would make a good story out of , and possibly PAY for the information !
