What tyre brands do you prefer?

Just fitted a set of Bridgestone to the ML, very impressed

Cheers lads.

I have decided on Goodyear eagle Asymmetric 3
Anyone have any reason not to go with/ bad experience with these?

Amazing reviews Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - Tyre Reviews

P.S the continental tyres are said to be 'homologated for fitment to MB' is this just a gimmick?

Uniroyal Rainsport 3 on 245/35/19s.

Sticks to the road like glue and brilliant in the wet.:thumb:. Cheaper than Contis and perform better in the wet.

Just fitted avon zz5's to the rear of my car, 255 35 18, they replaced continental 5 which were noisy and lacked grip in damp to wet roads, the avons are so far miles quieter and the grip is much improved and they have a decent rim protector, obviously can't comment on longevity

Update:

Goodyear Eagle Assymetric 3 fitted at a cost of £88 each for the fronts

Tyres are good

HOWEVER service at F1 autocentres an absolute disgrace

Guys working there have No and I mean No clue what they are doing
Firstly they told me to come in at 3pm, however when I turn up they are full and clearly arnt operating following the booking timings...
The idiot tries to push my automatic with it in Park.. how f***** dumb can you get, I tell him I'll drive it in/put it in Neutral and after much persistence I finally am allowed to do that.
The idiot then tries yanking the key out with it in Drive... obviously it ain't coming out. Then realising hes to f****** dumb just raises the ramp and lets it sit on there 45 mins while he tries to change 2 tyres which is normally done in 1/4 of the time.. in that time this idiot is scratching my alloys and eventually manages to get the tyres fitted

Then screwing the alloys back on my car.. the fool ain't able to switch the car on.. obviously it needs to be put in Park to switch on. Ain't switching on in Drive is it? Thinks it's a clever idea to wind down the window and push the car using the back window?? I mean am I being fussy here or is this guy not able to realise that pillarless glass ain't the best thing to use to push a 1500kg+ car? Which by the way is in Drive.. then thinks he's gonna be able to push it out by holding the creme a pillar.. oh yeh just wipe all the oil and grease on your hands all over it why don't you??? (Came home and tried to clean it off but was a pain in the ass)

Then finally I tell the idiot look.. I'm driving it out.. for some reason he doesn't want me to do that? Insisting on pushing it.. WTF eventually he lets me reverse MY OWN CAR OUT!

In conclusion: F1 autocentres ain't the place to go.. at least my local one ain't..

And yes.. I'm mad haha

^ Seems you got a real incompetent tech (and I use tech very loosely)

If it was that bad, make a complaint. At the least the guy should have his ears burnt.

Will do.

It was the manager and his staff member

They were working on 3 - 4 cars at one.
He gets my tyre off then heads over an drains the oil out of an A class. I mean.. mate just get one thing done at a time FFS

What I found hilarious. Is the guy asks after all of this.. if he can sort out the tracking on it.. I almost laughed out loud.. I mean why would we let this f****** idiot mess around with suspension when he can barely change a tyre...

He wasn't too happy when I said I'd rather have it done at WIM/ Mercedes let's put it that way.. lol

Can't go wrong with Eagles :thumb:

I tend to buy tyres from Pneus-Online - they're considerably cheaper than the normal tyre places, and as long as you've got a tyre fitter you trust (or don't mind taking a gamble on their patchy 'approved fitters') they can deliver the tyres direct to you or a fitter in a couple of days.

I normally stick to Michelin PS3s (though normally on smaller / sportier cars) but last time I stuck on Hancook Ventus V12 Evos because they're ideal tyres for our soggy summers - they have better wet stopping / handling than the Eagles or PS3s at the expense of slightly worse cornering on our one dry day per year.

And as for F1, my local Hertford one used to be great, but they had a new manager last year and now they're staffed by baboons, so I won't touch them with a bargepole any more.

Had a look at Pneus-online, the tyres i got are £90 on there delivered.. I payed £88 today fitted at F1. I think the best option is to remove the wheels from the car and take it to the monkeys for fitting lol

but to be honest ill defo be going to WIM next time around.. Cant be ****d to deal with idiots like the guys at my F1 anymore

I'm on Continental ContiSport 5P at the moment. They are excellent. I will try Michelin Pilot Sport 4S next when they are homologated in my size.

I always go for Michelin normally. I highly rate their Pilot Super Sport tyre.

I dont get what it means by 'homologated'

I saw Continentals as homologated for fitment for MB, the goodyears i got didnt say that.. what does it mean?

Homologated means approved, in this case approved Mercedes. It doesn't mean that other tyres aren't suitable, simply that those approved by MB have been tested and proven to be within the required specification.

Some with a more cynical disposition may also say money changes hands to secure the approval.

£88 fitted for Eagles?! Blimey, they've got a lot cheaper since last time I looked

Think everyone else must be coming to the same concluson about F1, I've noticed my local has gone from having a packed car park on every day to being practically empty, even over the weekend. Somebody higher up in the organization needs to take notice fast - they've obviously used up their accumulated good will, and between that and the less than stellar online reviews their reputation must lay somewhere between Kwik Fit and PPI lawyers by now!

Ah okay..

Im happy with the Goodyears, seem excellent on the short drive back home.

As above F1 is s*** tho, I have emailed the customer services. Will see what they say.

Complained via the link you provided

The manager of the centre calls me up and leaves a message saying he has seen the email and is 'concerned' surely he can't think he's doing a good job?

I almost forgot about the whole thing so Im kind of lazy to speak to him, any point?

I'd call him and voice your concerns at the way both the branch manager and the fitter handled changing a couple of tyres.
Sounds like they both need retraining, especially how to maneuver an automatic.l

Back to the OP, I was happy enough with Conti Sport Contact 2 on my old B170 sport but decided on Michelin CrossClimate+ for a B180 SE. Smooth ride so far but their main attraction lies in the ever changing weather in the UK all through the year.

Ah right yeh will probably end up doing that :)

Hopefully he won't take it personally, I wouldn't put it past him to come and scratch up the car :bannana:
