Who uses ‘V-Power Diesel’....

Or you could view it as £3 extra for some snake oil (in the interests of getting the conversation started again :wallbash:)
I'll get me coat.
That’s cheap for snake oil, can’t be Viper-power diesel.

Managed to squeeze £92 of Sainsburys cheapest into the E class today  , things have gone up a lot recently
Is yours an extra capacity fuel tank buddy. My 04 e320 was . My 17 reg e350 takes about £75 to fill.

It must be for that fill price (I don’t actually know it’s capacity ) , it just does 620-660 on a tank which is all I need to know buddy :)

It was listed on my data card.

Onky 6p a litre difference, that’s cheap. It’s 12p up here. I’m driving down to fill at your station to save that 6p.
Or you could have some couriered over to you? That would save the cost of driving. Genius! 🤔

Fuel pricing is linked with cost of crude, cost of development, production and distribution etc., but is also strongly linked with marketing and why not? Last time I looked, there really wasn‘t a lot of profit in a litre of diesel or petrol. More margin on a Mars bar in fact.

We should also consider that much of what we pay at the pump is tax and duty.

Although premium diesel fuels do offer some benefits such as improved cleaning or GTL content (depending on who is supplying it), they are in the main offered as a product over which the consumer can make choice. So, they are priced accordingly. If nobody bought them, they would either be cheaper or not offered at all. As it is enough people are prepared to pay the up charge to keep the fuels at the forecourt.

Some people are convinced that the whole premium fuel thing is a con by the oil companies and will never be swayed from that position.

A litre of fuel on the forecourt can cost less than a litre of water in the shop......

Is this stuff better than V Power diesel? It is much more expensive (£3.95 a litre) so must be better.vpr_Diesel-TORC-DX.jpg

Dear John,

I have just worked out that if I import crude by the barrel, refine it at home, add the additives pack, then pay the duty, I'd still be quids-in compared to the price at the pumps. Can you offer any advice on how to break the news to the missus....?

Sincerely,

F. Rugal

Dear F Rugal

Explain to the good lady that she will no longer have to travel to refuel her car and the savings will be partly donated to her handbag fund.

Regards

John.

Some of us are going to have to buy premium going forward when this E10 stuff become standard, based on my understanding that at least some of the premiums will still have to be E5 or equivalent. Going to have to read the labels a bit more.
Don't want my old seals being eaten by this new E10 additive!

The majority of cars and especially MB are OK to use with E10 according to the Government website 👍

But not all. My worry would be that the list of those that can't is slowly expanded as we find out practically which other ones can't that they've forgotten about.
Probably not a big problem though.

I don't use V-Power as in all the tests I have done in the last 2 decades on well serviced diesel vehicles up to 70k miles old, have shown no advantages.
just a higher price. to pay at at the pumps.
I won't include the Defender TDI as it is real old school (and on 140k miles) and would probably run on cooking oil or chip fat.

However, for the last couple of months, my son's Crafter race van has had intermittent misfire when cold and under load. Occasionally it would appear when hot and has gone into limp home on one occasion. A new fuel filter gave a temporary cure indicating the issue may be insufficient fuel supply.
We ordered a new tank lift pump which failed to arrive before the weekend, so he set off on a 500 mile round trip to Wales....and decided to fill with V-Power.
The van ran without fault.
There was certainly a difference, but wether it was do with fuel quality, cleaning agents or just luck, is impossible to say.
The few quid extra for fuel on this occasion was much cheaper than a new lift pump...... :dk:

My guess is that it was the detergent, though you would get the same effect from a bottle of Redex/Forte/Millers/Wynns/BK44.

The clever trick here is to prevent this from happening in the first place... so regular (or occasional) use of premium Diesel, or additive, will prevent that. But then nothing will happen, and you will get this:

I don't use V-Power as in all the tests I have done in the last 2 decades on well serviced diesel vehicles up to 70k miles old, have shown no advantages.

It's Catch 22, really... :D
