Wide Body SL600

Missed another deadline. We had some damage on the turbo oil lines. I am not back in the country now until the end of August.

I am looking at some HRE P103 wheels to get the offsets correct and get rid of the spacers. They should come in around 23lb and give me the ability to run the 305mm front tyres.

I have Michelin Cup 2 tyres 325/30r20 rear and 305/30r20 front, these are around 7% out of spec so I will fit a unit to correct the speedo.

I am also looking at doing the SL65 cluster which has the 220mph speedo as my 160mph just looks wrong.

I have ordered some Recaro cross sportster CS seats, should save around 200lb. Add a few for the harness and harness bar which will help with rigidity.

I hope to have everything complete in around 5 weeks. I have a few track days booked for the beginning of September to put all the upgrades to the test.

I will try to post some pictures as things come together over the next few weeks.

So the HRE P103 wheels are ordered as well as the Recaro seats. The car is being put back together. This is a quick shot of the inter cooler expansion tank/ ice tank.

The Eurocharged guys are still working on the Cold Air Intake as well as the inter cooler pump setup, I think the final plan is now in place.

I have had a custom radiator built in order to allow more space for the CAI. It will be a quad CAI with 2 larger intakes behind the center grille and 2 smaller intakes going to the DRL area..

We will also be running 2 inter cooler pumps and 2 fans all going through a control unit which can adjust each pump and fan speed independently depending on the temperature that you program each item to cut in at, they will also be variable speed so they can ramp up and down individually as required.

I am hoping we have now done enough to counter the v12 heat issues and allow the new upgraded turbos to create the power we are looking for.

We should have dropped around 300lb of weight along the way and 150-200lb more when I decide to do the coil over conversion.

I have also given the go ahead to change the cluster to the 220mph version to complete the look.

The last thing I am looking at is the SLR gear stick with the red fighter pilot flip up starter button to retrofit. I will see how that goes.

I am hoping my car is going to go on the dyno today to get a baseline map, the intake is not complete yet but it will give us an idea of what the new Turbo setup is doing.

So the quad intake is done and the car went on the dyno yesterday but started with misfires straight away.

I had thought this may be an issue from when one side shut down on me last year at Silverstone. So while in the U.S. I had paid a visit to Auto Zone and picked up a new set with a lifetime warranty.

So Paul got the new coils today and should get them done tomorrow and hopefully a real dyno run tomorrow afternoon.

Forgot to say I am still waiting for my seats to arrive which I am getting a little worried about as I am due to pick the car up in just over a week.

The update is the seats are arriving tomorrow, so should be all good for the end of the week.

Big problem however, we have a coolant leak from one of the turbos. It has been removed and is going back to turbo dynamics in the morning who are going to do a quick turn around and have them back on the same day. Sounds unlikely but I will keep my fingers crossed.

We also have some guys from Eurocharged Houston flying in to do the tune. I have got a full detail booked for the 2nd September and the first performance test will be September 12th at Santa Pod over the 1/4 mile.

Next will be VMAX HYPERMAX on the 26th September followed by Siverstone GP on the 28th, after all these days I will evaluate what direction to go next especially on the coil over suspension conversion.

fingers crossed and hopefully I will see you at vmax. You will recognise me by the pointless number plate ;-)

Sorry for a silly question but what does an intercooler expansion tank do?

It just holds more coolant and should allow the system to bleed itself. The tank is just a small ice tank with a second pump, It is located as high as possible in the battery location, I have yet to see it working so time will tell.

Wywywywyw, what would be your opinion?

Oh I see, so it's like a secondary coolant tank? I thought it was something to do with the turbos' intercooler

My opinion is that the red colour looks well cool :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Yep, secondary coolant tank for the intercooler system. I will also be able to use ice if I feel the need however at the moment I don't intend to.

You have geat knowledge of our intercooler system do you think this type of tank will help to keep air out the system?

Ace this is going to be far too tempting. How long can you last?
