Wide Body SL600

What is the drag coefficient of the Gt S?

Just found it 0.36, not as good as I would have thought.

At this point if get anywhere close to 750BHP I will be very happy. Eurocharged have sent a couple of guys from Houston to do the tune.

Last night I had a good read through this post having briefly seen your car at the Benz on the Green earlier in the year.
That is one hell of a project you have undertaken and I'll be interested to hear how you get on when you take it on track.
I'm not a body kit or modifying person myself in fact I'm the dead opposite but have to say that body-kit does look nice and your choice of putting the bigger discs on the car makes the whole project have an air of thoroughness and integrity about it.
One of my pet hates are people who put big wheels on a car only to emphasise the weedy looking standard discs, not that the standard discs are weedy but there is a size ratio that either looks right or doesn't.
In the photograph of the silver car with the kit it does emphasise the front body lines/contours which tend to get lost in black and I have to say I'm one of those who doesn't like the red accents just from my personal point of view I'd have them a blackish red.
Throughout my car loving life going back many years I have seen the odd black Merc thats not bling but dark, moody and powerful and your car is one of those rare sights.

Very nice to hear those kind words.

Quite a bit of the red accents have gone now as it was always something I was going to review. I do like the contrast and hopefully now I have got the correct balance.

I will post some new pictures over the weekend and I have a full detail and paint correction booked for the 2nd September.

I plan on doing Santa Pod on the 12th and then VMAX on the 26th followed by the real test of Siverstone on the 28th.

This car came out the factory with track performance very low on the priority list, however I think with the extra reliable power, weight loss and some dynamic changes in the setup with the wider track and much wider tires upfront along with the brake upgrade, I have a feeling it can be very quick and really annoy the Porsche guys on the track.

Time will tell if I have to go down the coilover route but I am quite sure it will be when and not if.

One seat in but it will be hard to drive from this side. The interior will all blend together once I do a lot of custom leather work, I don't like the grey interior so all will be black with red stitching and probably some diamond stitch on the seats.

I have the same seats on my M3, only difference is these are heated, and believe me they are more comfortable than the stock seats.

More bad news for me. During the tuning process on Saturday a squeak started, they checked pulleys and belts and narrowed it down to the drivers side turbo.

So the engine has to be dropped and turbos removed.

Only bit of good news was that they had it up over 700hp and had a lot left in it, they think we may get close to 800hp, so for now another delay.

I've been following this thread closely as having a 600 I've a common interest sorry to hear your still encountering problems, can I ask whose been doing the work on the turbos.

If it wasn't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all!!!

It is turbodynamics. They have been very good. I have a suspicion that the problem lies on the compressor wheel as only the turbine side was upgraded. I bought the turbos used so I did not really know the condition.

What I will probably do is upgrade the compressor side to billets also, should mean more power and then the entire turbo will be brand new. It was something I thought about when the turbos were being done the first time but made the wrong decision evidently.

I am going to drive the turbos down to the south coast today and hopefully get a quick turn around so I can have them put back on Thursday.

The Eurocharged boys have been pushing really hard recently and new walls keep getting put up so it has been frustrating from both sides. They are going to get my lowering module done while we wait for the turbos.

Thanks to the guys at Eurocharged again for the laste nights and effort.

I'm guessing dropping the engine out to keep getting the turbos doesnt come cheap, nice to see you persevering though many would have thrown in the towel before now.
Well fingers crossed it's resolved this time.

I have the turbos in my car to take to the south coast tomorrow. A couple of pictures from today.

Trying to get the turbos back in tomorrow and have the car at salon prive on Saturday.

The Turbos are back at Eurocharged however they have been tied up today with a Lambo Aventador video shoot.

So another day, hopefully tomorrow they will get it all back together and i will be able to use it over the last week of my trip.

On another note I went to the launch of the RR DAWN in London last night, the front is more modern with a slightly smaller grille and very nice LED headlights. The choice of the interior finishes were not to my liking but all that can be customized. I think it will be a big hit.

Salon Prive was fantastic. Probably around 500 super cars from the last 30 years. It would be a very short list if asked what cars were not present.

I was a guest of the Marqess of Blandford who shared their home for this event, big thx. To George.

I am hoping to have my car back on Monday. This is a little background of the turbo issues.

The first set of turbos was an upgrade of the sl600 turbos which have a very unusual turbine wheel size, with two different sizes. The compressor wheel we used was very large and caused blowback issues while trying to be tuned. Two things may have been the problem. One the manifolds could not get the air out quick enough or. Two the size relationship between the compressor wheel and the turbine wheel may have caused issues.

The second time the sl65 turbo was used, we used a slightly smaller billet compressor wheel upgrade than the first time along with the sl65 has bigger evenly sized turbine wheels. We started to tune the car as Eurocharged USA has sent 2 guys over to do my tune. They had the car over 700BHP with A/F still peaking in the 11's at this point a squeak was starting to be heard so we had to stop. All the normal pulleys and belts were checked and the noise seemed to be coming from the drivers side turbo.

So now the turbos have been rebuilt again however when they were pulled apart they said they saw no evidence of any issues. So third time lucky. I hope the turbos were installed today and we will do the final dyno runs and tune on Monday.

Jerry from Eurocharged USA was very keen to keep going and said he thought close to 800BHP was within reach, we shall see. This dyno is also the lowest reading dyno around us so I will probably do a few different dyno pulls once the tune is finalized.

More bad news the noise has not gone and it looks like the turbos are coming out again.
