Will an alternator from a 430 fit on a 230k?

Ok so I have 2001 230k avantgarde cabriolet. I have been collecting parts for an I.C.E install and will be running the following

1500w monoblock powering two vibe 12"
4x 800w amps powering 8 component speakers with crossover and tweeters
Power cap
Active crossover
Double din DVD player
2 headrest monitors
2 rear DVD players

I appreciate the real skill will be hiding all of this in a car with very limited space but my question is this:

Rather than going for a custom Alternator to charge an optima yellow top could I switch my wimpy 90Amp alternator for the 150amp from the 430?

Would it be a straight swap, would it throw any error codes?

I will NEVER be sat in a car park playing loud music, I simply want the ability to hear quality sounds while on the move, rarely will the system be used above 30%.

I do have heated seats, air con and bi xenons, will 150amps even be enough?

Thanks in advance!

Yes it will fit. Would you/ can you overload a 150amp alternator. No. Why do you need so much power? That amount of speakers/ amps will weigh your car down and sound crap. Unless the car is a show car, just get one set of decent components properly installed. A pair of 6.5s can blow anyone's head off if done right.

P.s. lose power cap. They are crap and kill your battery / alternator faster.

If you are really worried get a second battery on a split charge system and lose the spare wheel.

Thanks for your input i thought it would be a straight swap but you guys certainly know more about our cars than i do.

I'm binning the spare and fibre glassing the subs and amps into the spare wheel well to hide it all up. The weight gained wont be far off the weight saved by deleted the spare.

Its not really going to be a show car. It is more an exercise in what i can fabricate and a personal project. I like these door builds:
Produkte Doorboards Soundsystems | Mercedes | Clk | Mercedes Clk W 208 Cabrio Coupe 75174 Doorboards Mit 3 Wege Soundsystem | Jehnert Sound Design Automotive

And i plan on making something similar. I've picked up front and rear cards from the bone yard and aim to get as close to factory look as possible. If i fail miserably i can bin the lot, stick a couple of 6.5's in the standard holes and have done with it!

As for sounding crap, i'm not sure i'm with you. If a pair of decent 6.5 comps properly installed can blow your head off then surely 6 pairs of decent 6.5 comps properly installed wont sound "crap". Maybe i'm being naive as i've never put 4 6.5's in a door before.

I know the cap is pretty redundant also, if i have a good deep cell battery, uprated alt and TB3 then it will act more like a fancy volt meter. I've got it anyway so figured what harm can it do.

I didn't really want to go the spare battery route as i need to hide so much in the wheel well i could do without having another battery to hide.

Head over to Talk audio and read some of the faq s etc about sound quality and speaker placement. I'm no expert in this field but have spent many many hours reading about it and implementing the basic principles in my own vehicles. If you want a cheap test, wire up multiple sets of speakers at home in your living room, then disconnect all but one set. I already know what will sound better.
One left source and one right source will produce the clearest stereo sound with less time alignment issues.

If you want an exercise in fabrication, fit some motorised door pods with 3 position memory. I sat in a show car 5 years ago with a set up like this. 1St memory was set for best sound stage for driver. Second for passenger and finally 3rd was best compromise for both listeners. The electronic eq/crossover also had 3 memory positions which corresponded to the motorised door pods.

I've been reading a lot over there also. A great source of information.

Motorised door pods do sounds very cool. Ill see what i can find out about them.

Thanks for your help.

When a get round to starting the build i will create a build diary on here.
