Write-off value when car is already cat D

It might not affect the NCD, but it can affect your premium.

It didn't affect my wife's premium when a bus scraped her parked car - they admitted liability straight away.

Fair play who do you insure with because I might give them a call if they don't price based on risk.

Well, if you're old enough (!) Saga are really exemplary. On my CLK 270, I pay £159 fully comprehensive for my wife and myself, but they won't insure anyone under the age of 50 (either the main or named driver). And, they didn't try to jack up the premium at renewal time!

A couple of years ago my wife's Audi got shunted from behind as she was turning left off a main road. Fully settled by the other driver's insurance, but the renewal quote on the SL (which she's a named driver on) shot up when we declared the non-fault accident. No previous claims (non-fault or otherwise). As mentioned, companies vary ... it didn't affect the premium on the Vito.

My experience with Saga was less impressive. When I changed cars they took maximum advantage and nailed me by doubling the premium over the remaining months of the policy and added an unreasonably large administration charge on top of that. When the renewal came through it was again near double the amount I eventually paid with another insurer. And all this to change a 190e for an entry model W204.

I had a non-fault claim appear on my premium at renewal time which would have increased my premiums. Why? Well I phoned my insurer to enquire if my stolen trailer was covered on my policy. It was not. No argument. End of call, less than two minutes. The insurer then (without telling me) logged this as a non-fault claim with zero financial loss. but attempted to increase my premium.

Be careful out there.

Well they valued it at what a replacement would be from a dealer, so 1600 rather than the 1000 it was worth privately.

Interestingly it was 500 to retain salvage, which is rather more than I was expecting. Got 30days to find a replacement

So they would have settled at £1600 less £500 for the salvage , leaving you £1100 in pocket with the car ?

Doesn't sound too bad ?

The breakers yards are full of 203's , and scrap values are very low right now .

It wasn't too bad, but it certainly isn't worth my while repairing it when it is only worth ~900 once repaired. A colleague bought back his Fiesta ST from the insurance company for 12% of the insured value a couple of months ago. He then resold immediately on ebay for 35% of the insured payout. Perhaps the insurance companies have cottoned on to this.

On mine the wheelbase is approx 23mm shorter on one side than the other - it was a fairly hard hit!

Copart are collecting it on Wednesday, be interested to see how much it goes for, I now have a 2012 E350CDI estate to replace it. The W203 is uninsured now and on the drive, so the new car is having to sit on the road.

Once copart have collected it, I get the cheque for the remaining £500

Sounds like a good outcome - hope you are happy with the new car .

There is a significant difference between the load capacities of E Class and C Class estates - I noticed that when I got my 203 estate after several 123 and 124 estates .

Off it goes to Copart. The driver was very glad it still ran as he had to park 1/4 mile away as our roads are too narrow to get his truck down
