Advice needed - Viewing E55 Tomorrow

good luck, let us know how u get on.

Hi All,
Been to look at another E55 earlier in the week, this one's a 53 plate (Dec 03) so had a few revised bits inside than the two previous cars I viewed. This one has lower mileage (40k) and has full service history. It is due a service C is 7k miles. It has very good spec including Keyless Go, Command, Dynamic Seats, Sunroof etc. The only probelm was it was throwing down with rain when I got there to view it so have arranged to go back again tomorrow.

If anyone is in and around the Matlock area tomorrow afternoon (or knows of any Independant Specialists in that area who might help) and would like to help me view then it would be very much appreciated. We will be taking the car to a place with a ramp so I can see it underneath.

OK, had a good look at this one. It drove well and was in good condition inside. However after inspecting the paintwork found that the whole front end had been resprayed, whilst this may not be a problem in some cases (car is nearly 6 years old), it worried me because the depth of the paint also revealed that the car had had all new panels and bonnet. Whilst the car is Hpi clear it does appear that it may have had a shunt at some time.

So the search continues....

Just to prove that you should never buy a car in the rain......did you use a paint meter or was it very obvious by looking?

I took a paint caliper to measure the paint on my E55 when I brought it...............glad I did.

Exactly.

I actually went back a second time to view it this time not in the rain. To be fair I couldn't tell if it had been resprayed. I used a paint guage/meter and it showed that it had had a full front end respray, also due to the lack of depth of the paint (less than std), it was obvious that the panels had also been replaced, normally if a panel has been resprayed then the thickness is roughly doubled from std.

Still looking for that elusive E55 so if anyone knows where it's hiding then please let me know...

Jules.

On my C43, "Jittery" steering could be caused by worn inside shoulders on the front tyres. When mine get worn the cars starts to tramline. Outside shoulder and the central section wear much slower so it's not always obvious.

Not sure if this applise to a 211 but it may do.

Patience.............took me about 8 months to find mine

Lopes,

Thanks for the link, I have already enquired about this E55 and whilst rare and with low mileage and good spec, I am not 100% certain on the colour.

Thanks Jules.

Don't think it suits the 55 IMHO Jules, I'd be looking more towards the Gateshead car

True, it's specced well also, plus from what NewMB says it's pretty much sorted out mechanically as well. The only other one I like is down south and is in Opal Black (Black with a hint of deep blue in sunlight), at first I wasn't sure about the colour but I've seen it on a couple of Mercs now and it looks great, not as well specced as some other E55's (no proper Nav buT maybe this can be retrofitted?), but appears to be very well looked after and in decent condition.

I could always wrap it in Matt Black for you, or any other colour in fact!:D

Have you had any success yet Cyclone?

I am researching this model & found the thread very helpful.

Likewise.

Do I need to wait until it's my turn to buy a peach, or is it a free-for-all? :D

By the way, don't just look in the "AMG" section on Pistonheads, loads of AMGs turn up in the relevant 'other class' too (I think mine was listed under C Class, for one)
