All C43 AMG owners - What shall I do?

My dealer has confirmed ''in writing'' that my cars Conti 5P's will be replaced with Conti SSR's (courtesy of the Bundesbank). I think demand must be high at the moment as he cannot confirm exactly when they will arrive.. no surprise there then. Not sure how many C class models are getting this offer as owners' experiences seem to fluctuate from dealer to dealer. Why didn't the R&D boys spot this in the first place it would have saved MB loads of £/€ and missed sales for sure.
Is your dealer north Essex?

Sorry if mentioned before but were you on 18's non run flats or 19's runflats? I see the firestones are non run flats.

Mine are 18’s . Seems strange they are not run flat as there is no spare or tyre weld as far as I can see

Now that this Post has been relegated to another topic stream it's gone very quiet..... So assume all quiet on the Western front?

My tyres getting changed next Fri. Will report back once done detailing the improvement and also the make of tyre

Still waiting for a date to change mine guess demand must be pretty high as assume that all new C Class models will be fitted with these tyres -probably Conti SSR's RF's for larger wheels- so guess people like me are further down the pecking order.....

My dealer is finding out from the factory what will be fitted to the car when I order. Obviously this may change but they can tell me the current tyres, they are genuinely sympathetic to the situation and seem like they want to find out, there has been no BS from them so far.

Last night I flew into Southampton Airport and Merc is just on the perimeter so I had a look round their car park. Two C class C43's there ,one on 18's with Bridgestone Potenza's fitted (which I understand don't suffer crabbing) and a pre reg car (below) that was for sale on 19's which had the Continental SSR's (which also don't suffer as I understand). These were both new cars.

Used Mercedes-Benz C-Class | Marshall Mercedes-Benz

I know we cant assume anything but it does look like the non crabbing tyres are now being fitted by the factory, which gives me some piece of mind I think to go ahead, as does RL-C43 Coupe above with his Firestones.

Ordered one yet and if so what spec have you gone for?

Big mistake..... tyre swap end of this week. Should have booked an emergency track day to thrash the current tyres. :( missed out.....

Make the most of it, ask if you can keep the old ones

Two things spring to mind.. Firstly, if you can keep your old tyres you can make a few £ but not sure how buoyant the second hand market on used tyres is, and secondly, which probably won't appeal as your crabbing is unacceptable is to keep your new tyres on hold for a few months and get them fitted later in the year after you have put more miles thru your current one's - but as I said that probably won't be to your liking.

nah, its embarrassing. Tyres getting swapped asap.

Update... new Conti SSR (MOE) tyres being fitted backend of next week... Further update forthcoming...

Just back from dealer. I needed the car so they did it while I waited. 2hrs in total. Car returned fully washed. 4 new tyres. These are the SSR run flats mentioned already.

On arrival the tech went over the car with a fine tooth comb. Alloys still pristine. On return of vehicle we went over it again and I confirmed the alloys were unharmed. I was not given the old tyres. Did ask but they were not keen to. TBH, on reflection why would I want tyres with a faulty compound. Would have sat in my garage collecting dust for years.

I have driven the car. Feels more planted to the road. Also does not feel noticeably harsher in terms of the ride. Was surprised by that as my previous experience with runflats with BMW's was different. I definitely noticed a harsher ride back then. Maybe sidewall technology has changed in the intervening 8 years.

Getting back to the C43. Have driven it home. Have driven it at low speed with full lock in an attempt to replicate the crabbing. I did all my normal driveway manoeuvres which used to result in the crabbing issue. These manoeuvres would normally result in crabbing 100% of the time.

I can confirm that with these new tyres the problem has completely resolved. Not a wiff. A completely normal car.

I'm delighted. Got my Mercedes back.

While killing 2 hrs was tempted to explore fitting those illuminated logo's in the door sill. MB ones were £155 fitted. Didnt do it but will ponder.

Anyway. Crabbing over. Time to move on.

Well, as they say, the journey was awful but the destination was worth it!! Pity MB didn't pick up on this sooner. Having said that the ultimate test will be tomorrow morning when the temperature is down low. Hopefully all will still be well.

Fingers crossed eh?

tis nippy, been on more drives. No crabbing. Same temp on route to dealer and it was crabbing. I think this is over

That's good news. Incidentally, did your dealer take out the repair items associated with the original non runflat tyre's which I think are supplied unless I have got this wrong?

Incidentally, you mention ''illuminated logo's for the door sill'' but thought they were standard as mine model has them which light-up with the 'AMG' logo when the door is opened in poor light?

Not on mine. It’s a c43.
