All C43 AMG owners - What shall I do?

...........On arrival the tech went over the car with a fine tooth comb. Alloys still pristine. On return of vehicle we went over it again and I confirmed the alloys were unharmed. I was not given the old tyres. Did ask but they were not keen to. TBH, on reflection why would I want tyres with a faulty compound. Would have sat in my garage collecting dust for years................
It's not the tyres that have a fault, it is the cars suspension geometry or 4wd system which is "faulty" that the different compound tyres are masking. The tyres would have been worth something on ebay providing they were in good condition with plenty of tread left.

Perhaps. But if the MB R&D people had done their jobs properly owners' would never have known about it until they changed their tyre's back to non-runflats. Having said that if the problem is related to the ''suspension geometry'' then no one will really care as it only seems to manifest itself through the tyres so changing them addresses/masks the problem and it remains undetectable. Job done in my opinion.

Mine's a C43 and I've got illuminated treads
Assume you are experiencing the crabbing problem if so what are/have you done about it?

I’ll check later. I’m not talking illuminated sills , I’m talking a merc logo thrown on the pavement beside the door

There called 'Puddle or Ghost' lights and replace the light underneath the doors. Had them on my last car. You can buy them online for a fraction of the main dealer price check them out. But probably not worth the expensive as the illuminated sill light are sufficient imo.

ps. checked for Mr Crabby yet today?

Well picked up my car earlier with new Conti 5 SSR's fitted and -I think- Mr Crabby has left the building!! It's early days I know but have done a few full-lock manoeuvers and no sign. I also mentioned that wind noise is intermittently audible at mostly motorway speeds and they have fitted acoustic glass which doesn't completely mask the noise but it's better, but it does a good job of masking exterior noise when sitting in traffic which is definitely noticeable. So after around 13 months, 38,000 Views and over 750 Replies perhaps this Post has reached the end.... But I think it's testament that the power of the people -which probably had something to do with MB re-evaluating their stance on this issue- sometimes wins through, but who knows. Happy driving:thumb:

Crabby gone. 1 week of new SSR’s.

What I find really interesting is that the SSR’s are just fine. Not harsher or more noise. Not what I expect from run flats.

Tell me more about acoustic glass. I find it very difficult to hear the phone over speakers on the motorway due to the volume not being loud enough or background noise too much

Acoustic glass option has both front window glass that's laminated rather than toughened. I would hazard its stiffer and dampens sound better. Its a W205 option and has been dealer retrofitted to cars whose owners have complained about excessive wind noise.
W205/ S205 Wind Noise?

My tyres being replaced tomorrow. Incidentally am running 260 kPa on current Conti 5p's will this be OK on new SSR's?

Yep, tyre noise pretty much the same. As for acoustic glass it's actually two layers which naturally reduces outside noise but as I said earlier it does reduce the noise around top of driver/passenger doors but not completely but did notice reduced noise sitting in traffic which is fine with me. If you are having the same problem contact your dealer and remind them there is a Technical Service Bulletin on this which starts off checking the seals/door alignment etc.. but to be honest its probably cheaper for the dealer to replace the glass at around £60 a door rather than waste time and money playing with the seals. I think that's what my one did after an initial test drive which once again they need to do. This is the noise related thread: W205/ S205 Wind Noise?

Good luck let me know if I can be of any further help:thumb:

Incidentally have put 260Kpa/38PSI in my tyres, what are you running at?

Nah... keep it going

Maybe but I guess that's up to owners who may still be experiencing this problem but new cars will be fitted with Conti SSR's as standard so they won't be affected. As far as I am concerned the issue has been successfully addressed so job done for now. Having said that I don't think MB are handling this particularly well. What really amazes me is that E owners who are also experiencing this problem are being told ''buy winter tyres'' but I think if they group together and put some pressure on MB then perhaps eventually they will be offered replacement tyres which will mask the issue. By the way what's your view on tyre pressures?

So when I became aware of this issue, I looked up all season tyre options. None existed on my 19 inchers. So I assume MB felt forced to look for a solution.

It would be useful to know what other tyre's dont have this issue cos in due course we will all need to replace them.

Would any runflat work? Another poster (apologies, I cant be bothered looking back) posted another tyre make which worked.

Tyre pressures as per the book
