AMG Estates - help me find one

Update

There was a facelift 210 E55 Estate with sunroof .. and looked in great condition. Silver and black.

Had ventilated seats, adaptive damping etc etc

Was going to look at it this morning.

Seller withdrew car from sale .. he decided to keep it since it needed new brake pads, spark plugs, air filters and brake fluid change. He's going to enjoy it for a few more months, and who can blame him.

Shame. Was on at £8950 with A service done.

Then I saw a 1 owner C55 Estate (I think it has all options) this afternoon (black, black and bird's eye maple):

It is pretty much immaculate inside and out -- no wear on driver's seat exit bolsters. Niggly bits:

1. One or 2 stone chips on bonnet.

2. Slight lacquer lift on rear alloy. Rusty wheel nuts.

3. Different wheels on each axle, continentals on back, pirellis on front. Front has about 5k miles lift I reckon. All tyres wearing evenly.

So so tempting, but more than I wanted to spend.

And I also found the ride much harder than my dearly departed 208 CLK 55.

It was so good to be in an AMG V8 with the growl and grunt.

Oh dear.

You sound like you've got it bad for your old 55 Sean:(

Great looking car, it does seem to me to be a tad expensive.

I know what you mean by the AMG V8 growl - who needs a stereo or radio, the soundtrack from the engine bay and exhaust is just enough!

Mines not an AMG , but it is a V8 with an AMG 55 exhaust on it , and i deliberately hung back so i could give it some welly through the John Lewis underpass in Kingston the other night ..... :o wound the window down too ... :o

Childish ...... but such fun .....

A barry in a Polo going the other way had a real WTF look on his face !

That looks very nice, nice colour, spec, low owners / millage

Worth paying more for in my book.

If you intend buying a 210 then boy would I go into this with my eyes WIDE open. they would be out on stalks when i examined the bodywork, the bodywork and the bodywork.

I am sure there are some decent 210's out there but just beware and do not be taken in by a cheap and cheerful quick respray

thanks.

already have a 210 estate so I sort of know where the rust points are.

excellent find .. pricey, but you're right, can negotiate :)

Just called them.

SOLD! (deposit being taken by a colleague as we spoke)

Not to me :o

Apparently, they had many enquiries. Salesman thought they had underpriced it!

Wow, couldn't have been on autotrader for more than 24 hours before i saw it.

My mate in the trade says he's having a bumper start to the year (audi).
So much for the credit crunch!

There are are alot of people looking to upgrade to AMG's in the current market.
Good cars are going fast

UPDATE

The car came back on the market on Friday. Previous buyer could not raise finance.

Went to see it Saturday morning.

Am not going for it. Here is the list of issues:

1. rust on (a) the rear of all 4 wheels arches; (b) all door tops (under rubbers) except driver's -- especially bad on rear o/s; (c) tailgate, just below number plate lights

2. all wheels need refurbishment -- all badly scuffed

3. driver's interior door handle, plastic has come off. need new one

4. COMAND does not work -- not reading CD. Probably laser failure

5. Clock and temperature display -- kaput

6. rear o/s door panel .. 1 inch tear in leather. need new nappa leather panel

7. ATF change needed .. gear change slightly hesitant

8. discs and pads all round needed -- steering wheel vibrated when braking from high speed

9. need new front drop links

10. 3 inch scuff on rear bumper, side skirts under wheel arch discoloured

11. new rear tyres needed in about 2k miles; new Avon tyres on front

12. driver's door leading edge badly chipped

13. oil leak on top of engine near oil filler cover (I think it's the light cam cover seal - same issue on my 208 CLK55)

The car would have been worth £11k if it had none of the above issues.

The thing that puts me off most is the rust .. the rest is maintenance.

Not a loved and cared for car at all.

NEXT ...

When you spoke to the seller for the very first time,,,,, How was the car described?

I actually didn't ask ...

I never believe anything until I check it out myself first, and they were not that far from me .. about 35 miles.
