Another "Zoe" on the mbclub fleet!

Nothing beats throwing a car through the gears. The only time I've ever genuinely wanted an auto has been times stuck in traffic jams crawling along going in and out of 1st gear.

See - exactly the same as the sound cliche.

The manual gearbox and clutch are a throwback - people only like them because of tradition and they start out with them.

If you were designing the car from scratch as a new technology today a manual gearbox wouldn't be acceptable except in the lowest of the lowest cheap models - and people who had them would be pitied.

Oh and in 10 years time we might as well all be driving Zoe's as all I see is roads that used to have 60 limits dropping to 50 and lower

Well consider whether we'll all be driving - in 10 years there might be a move to driverless - in which case we'll all presumably start to become passengers going at no more than 50 or lower.

Funnily enough I'm off to look at one this weekend. At the moment I'm using an old Volvo S70 Bowls Club edition for the 44 mile schlep to work and back. If it costs less than the monthly fuel bill on PCP/lease then it's looking good.

A Zoe or a Tesla!

Mine works out cheaper than the monthly fuel bill and also leaves a car free for my wife to use for getting places with the kids. She's a stay at home mum but we live rurally. Her annual mileage is about 3k but she'll be glad to have a car at her disposal again!!

Nothing wrong with electric cars (notice I didn't say zero emissions ;)). My missus can have one anytime she likes. And if she does get one I just hope I hate it! :D

Vroom vroom. Here's an electric(ish) car without zero emissions :bannana:

I'll dream on. Anyway, no doubt she wouldn't like the shape or the colour. :D

I completely disagree. What about crash boxes and having to double declutch when driving trucks. Then there were cars without power steering. I don't know anybody that would want to go back to that if they grew up with it.

Some designs are better but only in the eye of the beholder. Newer is not always better and that's my feeling about auto gear boxes. You always knew where you were with a good old five speed manual when you were giving it some beans through the windy bits.

Nowadays with some cars having upwards of eight gears driving manually is more of a guessing game.

I wonder what tiny % of flappy paddles are, when fitted, actually used on the modern 7, 8, and 9 speed autos?

And then we have the CVTs that have simulated manual ratios .... :wallbash:

A Zoe or a Tesla!

Sadly the wallet won't stretch the latter.

At the moment the Ovlov works through about £230 a month in petrol, so that's my target. It's purely for commuting to work, at weekends we use the SL or Lucy's Fiesta.

Dare I say the Zoe might even be more exciting to drive?

Sounds like a similar financial position to me.

I didn't just take into account file costs - I though about the predicted running costs of he Zoe over 2 years - nil - service included in deal for 24 months. No tax and under warranty compared to running the old car and keeping it on the road, putting it through 2 mots, taxing it etc. it was a no brainer to me! Good luck!!

Thanks, I'd forgotten to account for £270pa of tax and MoT, plus the servicing costs (well, materials and a few hours of my time wielding spanners).

If you test drive a Zoe switch ECO off.......its zips to 60 in 8.4 then!!!! It really is quite a nippy little thing and all silently!

Absolutely. Eco is like driving with the handbrake on. Pointless!!

Hey petrolheads - I'll bet my genitalia your lawn mowers are electric. Am I wrong?

Nice try - nope petrol. As is hedge trimmer and chainsaw but I will confess to an electric Hoover. Is yours petrol?

Not you Timster! You are prepared to go electric. I'm asking the V8 brigade how far their petrolheadedness runs. I'll wager electric mowers....

Me, I don't want or need a 6.3l V8 but 2-stroke strimmer and chainsaws are essential!

Fair play!! And good comment!
