Toni's C55 has *19"* AMG Styling IIs like that on it. Looks rather nice :)

Hmmm strange? I've checked it on the MBClub PNC and it comes back as this:

Vehicle details
Manufacturer Mercedes
Model C43 AMG AUTO
Body type 4 door saloon
Colour Silver
Fuel type Petrol
Date manufactured 31 December 1998
Number of previous owners 3
Last owner change 21 December 2000

I'd love to see one.

Nice... however, I didn't pay much more for my 2001 C32 AMG estate with just 20t miles but despite it having a smaller engine than the C55 I bet the performance figures are better with the newer supercharged motor!! :D  ;)
In defense of the C55, your C32 isn't only 1 of 7 made in that configuration, I presume your car wasn't previously owned by a member of the royal family and your car ain't a V8 ;) . Besides, some people prefer the solidity of the '202 compared to the '203.

I'm not exactly in a position to buy either car so my comments can be considered random and based entirely on heresay and speculation ;)

There were technically no C55s ever made. The C43 is a production line AMG and was made with all the other cars like C180s in the same factories. Some customers like Toni wanted a C55 and so their cars were shipped from the factory in Bremen to Affalterbach where the engine and transmission were swapped for CLK55 items. If you look up the VIN on the EPC it comes back as C43, just like the old W210 E36 AMG models come back as E320s. What they did with the old engines is anyone's guess, maybe used to keep the factory door open during summer ;)

I think the C55 was made to order at AMG only. You bought a standard C43, and then sent it to AMG to have it changed into a C55. That could be why the database details are not accurate.

I think C55's started as C43's which were then modded.

I am short in cash, but could raise it in a few clicks. Magnificent car, makes you wanna blow your...................................................................................................................£25K on it.

.... few more clicks for the insurance too Graham . . . don't forget that !! ;)

All that spec and no Xenons.....................my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!

EDIT: I joke, but seriously, you make a car which is one of 7, a special AMG commission, you would start with an absolutley fully optioned car, no?

I agree about the exclusivity but I've still not seen another C32 estate on the road. Anyone got an idea how many were made and how many brought into the UK?

The arguments about V8s versus V6 superchargers will go on and on but Chris Harris from Autocar described the engine in the C32 as, "one of the best illusion acts in all motordom - the 6.0 litre V8 impersonation" and " so naughty is its exhaust note from the twin AMG pipes you'd never guess it was a little supercharged six". About the estate version he commented, "even taking into account a few extra kilos of metal and glass this car will cut sub 5.0sec 0-60mph runs all day and thump to 100mph in around 11.0sec. M5 at the lights? Easy." :bannana:

I also appreciate that mine wasn't owned by a member of the royal family but does that mean if it was owned by Princess Anne it would have more horsepower?!!! :D ;)

I think it would be a little more thirsty too if that were the case ;)

Recall reading somewhere that these are world class tyre shredders!

..my excuse

If I hadn't blown £18K for my C230K W202 a few years back, I'd definitely buy it. But being a total newbie didn't even know these things existed.

The key drawback for me with this car is the mileage. I know 52k may not sound alot, but when i bought my C43 with 58k miles i thought that was low and the car "isnt broken in yet" as they say. Although i still like my C43 and i plan to hold on to it for a long time, i must admit it has cost me a frotune in expensive repairs and had hosts of problems as documented in my posting late last year. The trouble is people dont buy C55 or C43 for the Sunday afternoon Tesco shopping trip, but these are cars that are driven hard, floored and many are abused on the street and on track days etc.

This car had three owners, not one and this also is a negative for it, even if it has FMBSH (my car had one owner and with FMBSH and still cost me more than £6000 in repairs/maintainance in the last one and a half years).

just my two pennies worth !

My mate has built his own C55 from a C43! has had it a year now, he has now managed to source a 5.5 Kompressor engine which will replace the engine in his C55, will take detailed pics when he starts and will post them!
