Anyone seen any good number plates on cars lately?

I hope they don't go over to regulated plates and drop private ones

Looks like the EU's upset :(

The proposals could see Britain’s 110-year-old number plate switched to fall in line with European neighbours.
The latest plans are actually a watered-down version of the initial policy,
which called for a single number plate to be introduced across the EU.
It’s all part of a wider policy to make it easier to travel around the continent being discussed by the European Parliament.

Just scrapping the style is not the end of the world.

I doubt they would but if they scrap the registration format itself, there may well be a few disgruntled owners with the right to use particular private plates.

"The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) makes millions of pounds each year when new plates are released in March and September and would not want to lose this revenue stream under any EU imposed changes."

Easy solution- make everyone pay for their number plate. And make them renew them every year or two. Not likely to happen without a fight (thankfully) because it would be political suicide in the UK as it would be seen, quite rightly, as another tax on motorists. Don't one or two of the continentals have a yearly charge……..some tie up between number plates and insurance?

Saw a Masereti in Glasgow with the registration '50 5LOW' as it disappeared into the distance.

I prefer number plates that nobody will remember.

Alexis Sayle always used to tell a joke about personalised number plates being too expensive, so he changed his name by depol to KVC892W. :D

Saw CL55 AMG bizarrely on an SLK in Oxshott, Surrey today

I used to live in Germany and they have a typically efficient German way of doing things. When you buy a car you register it at the local town hall. You are then given a number plate. That plate then stays with you but is registered to the current car you own. When you sell the car the plate then moves to your next car.

You can personalise your plate within reason. The first prefix cannot be changed as it is the area the plate is issued but you can choose the following 2 letters and upto 3 numbers as long as it has not already been taken. I had a BMW 330 at the time and my plate was ME:AN:330

It makes checking a cars history a bit trickier because any car in a dealership in Germany will not have a number plate as the purchaser just puts their own plate on.

My local scrap yard, home to the original Scapheap Challenge, also provides portaloos!

Saw this today on battle bus. Plate is not entirely legal but it does have the right effect. I thought it was American until I looked more closely.
