Bought a C250CDi and it feels slow

If a new model hasn't been assigned a code they have to use an existing one, or refuse to register the car...

The dealer said that they think that because the car went straight onto a private plate, that when the car was traded in last month, that it was the first time the dvla had assigned a model to it, at this i did chuckle as the part of the log book i have clearly shows the car as a 220cdi, so that story didnt add up either!

I think, that it either is or is not a c250, from the responces on the thread from those in the know, it appears the car is a 250 and that it's likely that with it being one of the first registered of the new models, that it could well of been registered as a 220 for the exact reason you have just said, they didnt have or didnt seek to see if there was a code for such a car as mine.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to be helpful here.
So before you change the car at the risk of gaining nothing, ask them to let you drive a car with a C250 badge on it, back to back with yours to see if there really is a noticeable difference.

Thanks for doing this for me, it looks like its defiantley a C250CDI then, and it is a DVLA error upon registration.

So, i will still have the meeting with the dealer tomorrow, but its likely i will keep my car, sent R2D2 some pics coz the car is a gorgeous thing, just maybe expecting to much performance wise.

Mark, i will do that, as in test the black version back to back to mine, and if it turns out there is no difference, then i guess its just the way the car drives. Albeit a little dissapointing performance wise.

Anyway, can't thank R2D2 enough for this info!! :thumb:

Haha don't be silly tuts

I tested the my car against others in a very short burst to simply draw comparrison.

The M3 even returned an ave 26mpg and i drove that as it was meant to be driven, hard lol So dam right im dissapointed (thus far as its still early days) with the ave mpg currently being produced.

If i keep the car, i will soon know how the figures stack up against the official figures produced by Mercedes as i do an ave of 700miles a week.

Red is the Colour to go for... :)

AGREED!!!! :D:thumb:

As soon as have the privilages to post pictures, and if i keep this car which is looking more an more likely due to the recent info from R2D2, i will post some of my car :)

I get 35-39mpg out of my E320 with more power, torque, acceleration and top speed than the lighter C250 without even trying.

Can get 45-50 if I do try on a run! :D

Makes ya wonder sometimes what benefits these smaller engines offer IMHO

Chop it in OP and get the C350!

I am genunely tempted, but i'd want one in Red ;)

I notice you've been asking about re-maps on the performance forum!

I think you need to drive a 350 CDi ASAP and make an informed decision whilst you still have the option to.

Having said that if you do then you'll not want the 250 back! :bannana:

This is from a post about 'Injector replacement' on another thread thats been going since 2009.

Just before i bought my C250 they had replaced the injectors, so i am now wondering if this is part of the reason i have lost some of the power i should have with my car!?!?

The more i think about this whole C250 scenario, even with the latest data i've recieved, the more i look into this car, the more i think i will swap into something else.......Hmmmmm :wallbash:

Not impressed right now at all with all the hassle that appears to follow this version of engine about!

To be honest, the more and more i read about this particular 250 engine, the more im thinking the same thing!!

So i'm now 65% leaning the other way of jumping out of this car into a C350 where it appears i'll get what i want without the hassle!?!?!

I'm even getting to the point where i'm starting to regret even buying a Merc, they look great, but my first impression has been surrounded by nothing other than doubt, uncertainty and hassle!! That 335d Msport is starting to appeal more an more.

I can tell you now they will not give you your money back, it will end in a fight, frustration and you being in a car you hate.

If you want economy get a facelift 2011 car with the 7g+ 'box, the C250 will return a good 20% more, and the C350cdi will beat the earlier C250cdi.

But sod all that, just get a C350cdi.

I have been a BMW fan and gone through loads, from little 123d's, through 535d's, 335i's, M3s, and a CSL.
I would not take an E92 335d over a C350cdi, the Merc everytime. However I would take a facelift C250cdi over a pre facelift C350cdi.

If the car doesn't feel right trust your gut, I have had it before with a 320d, everyone told me coming from the mapped 335i it was always going to feel sluggish, but I knew something was wrong. There was the tiniest of leaks on the turbo hose and it was down on power, only slightly but it made all the difference. Trust your gut, the c250cdi gets to 60 in 6.9 seconds, the 320d takes 8.1 seconds, getting to 100 it is 18 seconds vs 22 seconds, and 4 seconds while doing 100mph is a ******g long way behind!!

Go drive another one, see yours is not right, and then buy the 350cdi. Job done!! ;)

I agree with gIzzE, you should just get yourself a C350 CDI you will be much happier.
If you want a C250 CDI you should definitely go for a 2011 facelift.

Listen to gIzzE!

I'm very happy with my facelift 250 and reckon its performance is pretty close to the Alpina D3BT I had before it (and the remapped e92 320d before that!)....and thats how it should be!

On a side note, I reckon that diesel BMW's are far more consistent with their mpg - giving a figure that doesn't vary much with how your drive them/road conditions. I'm finding the 250 gives very good results if cruising and driving relaxed. But in stop-start conditions, or use the performance more, and the mpg dives....

I trust you are pressing the button for sport mode as the difference is like day and night!

Hi guys, well i've visited the dealer again this afternoon as i said i would.

This is the result thus far.........

I took a 59 plate 250 out for a spin, and found it to 'feel' no quicker than mine!? What kills the car in my humble opinion is the aweful lag from floor the accelerator to the car actually moving!! The black one i tried today was exactly the same as mine, very laggy with a mid range surge, so i'm confused how this car ever does sub 7secs 0-60 as the lag kills a second straight away, which would explain i guess how the BMW minced mine from a stand still. Doesn't really eplain though how the 220 held its own aginst mine, and driver error here is definatly not a part of it, its AUTOMATIC for gods sake, so no gear crunch here or double shifting etc, besides, i've had everything from Porsche 911's, M3's Z4M's Audi S4 and A3 3.2 Quattro's etc etc and have done many track days over the years.

So what i'm now starting to think is that the 250 simply cant compete with lower powered cars in a drag and therefore never really get going to any real effect!? So i'm thinking my expectations were way to high.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE the look of my car, it looks stunning (i think so) in Opal Fire Red.

So anyway, the dealer said im more than able to take the next week to make a decision, either to upgrade (spend more money, which i haven't budgeted for and i really dont want a loan to buy my car) or to swap into the black 59 plate which has more extra's, full leather, parktronic,cd changer and heated front seats, but only sports the 17" alloys and is in Black and would also mean i'd have to hand over another £1,000 plus the cost of having the car super gaurded again as i did this one before i took delivery. Plus the black one has done approx 28500 miles compared to the 21k just cover buy mine.

Or, i decide to live with this and simply keep this car and except its not great on performance, so look to get a professional remap done, and as of todays results of careful driving does produce 50.2mpg combined which is where i wanted to be in regards to economy due to the 30k to 35k miles a year i cover.

I did look at the C350CDI option, but again the cost is what stops me, as the cheapest pre face life 09 plate / 59 plate i could find was £21.5k for an elegance version (and i want Sport) compared to the £16.5k i paid for mine including the Super Gaurd treatment.

So i hear what Gizze is saying, and again what Chelle has said, but unless im prepaired to get into financing the difference, i can't justify the extra cost. Coz for £22.5k for a C350CDi Sport i could easily get a 335d Msport or ever another M3 etc.

So cash budget being max £18k due to the fact i swap my cars every 12 to 18 months due to the mileage i do, i guess i'm going to be keeping this car and looking to get it remapped to slightly increase fuel ecconomy and noticeably increase theperformance.

Mercedes isn't made for drag race,it is a motorway car for long journeys its heavy and every ford and vauxhall will beat as on a traffic lights just let them go, and show a wisdom and pride
