The perfect advert!! haha ;)

Agree with that g1zzE and it put a smile on my face too.

Having met Paul (and his Mum) a couple of times I would just like to say that Paul comes from a top family, he also knows his Mercedes onions too. Should Steve just happen to PM Paul and a sale comes about he will not be disappointed.

I wasnt posting it that way.... I would have to find the bloody bits if someone did pm me.... :)

I think he should grab them off you, that way he could decide if he wanted to keep the 250cdi or swap before the deadline.

Steve,

You will adjust to the car, use the torque and not the power. I used to get frustrated with the acceleration, but have changed my driving style by not rushing the revs from rest.

I now make smooth, quick progress with good economy too.

Having had mine for over 2 months now, I find that if i want to make 'quick' progress, manual mode is the way to go.

Eco is too lethargic on the throttle
Sport picks up a lot quicker but uses to many revs for a turbo diesel
Manual allows you to keep in the torque curve and effortlessly leave people in your wake (well, most people).

dont be tempted to just plant your foot as it just drops too many gears in kickdown in my opinion, your not meant to 'rev the nuts' of a diesel turbo.

Just my 2p:)

if you want a c250cdi to go quick just put a tuning box and a magic throttle mod on it... worked a treat on mine 50mpg all day long and massively fast. wish i still had the car... shame i still have the boxes.....

Surprise Surprise, you have a PM :D

Really appreciate all the feed back by the way guys, very much appreciated.

I've driven just over 400 miles in the car thus far since collection late Friday night, and have averaged 43.4mpg overall from reset (which is creeping up slowly as it gets used to the motorway miles), and am now averageing 50.7mpg from start each day. So pleased with the ecconomy thus far, then again, i am like driving miss daisy on the motorways. It appears to love the long hall, its the round town it appears to plumit mpg wise.

I have to say though, i am loving the look and colour more an more of this car, and missing less an less my beloved M3 that had covered 126k miles by time i allowed myself to let it go.

Sounds like you're getting more used to the car. Must admit it is very different to an M3, lol.

Congrats and enjoy :)

Yeah i am slowly but surely getting used to the new wheels under foot. And chalk an cheese is the difference, but sadly, the fuel costs were killing me staying in the M3 so when it came time to change, i thought i'd go the whole hog and avoid finance this time and simply buy for cash.

Upside: better ecconomy, cheaper running costs in general, two year newer car, only covered 21k miles, and essencially no finance bill.

Downside, couldn't afford near new car, lost bollistic performance, lost that oh so sweet sound track of the engine winding up under full throttle, and to be honest, thats about it.....

So the ups outway the downs in my new car, and now that i've had my mind put at ease over the 250 / 220 issue which was what sparked this thread, i'm slowly growing into the car and loving being a part of a new forum, as my previous forum was with 'M3 Cutters' who had a lot of decent and knowledgeable guys on there, which im delighted to see there are on here too.

So happy chap now, will be even happier when i get this beauty to get its A s s into gear that little sooner with a delicate mod here an there ;)

Aye this is a great forum :)

Which M3 did you have? S65 engine? Manual or DSG?

your not meant to 'rev the nuts' of a diesel turbo.

Just my 2p:)

Oh Contrair my dear Rodney! :D

Tiz the best way of keeping a big Diesel sweet and un-choked!

Ok, for an update......

I went back to Mercedes this morning and asked to see the build spec, they brought it up on a system they use called Oasis, according to that system the car is as follows

Chassis number starts WDD2040032A3***33
Description is: C250CDi Saloon Blue Efficiency
DVLA/Ernie Description: C250 CDI Sport Auto
Brand: 0
.
.
.
.
.
Colour: Fire Opal
etc..................

Even with this info, and explaining to them that i still wasn't convinced due to the performance issues i've explained here and to them, they said they have no way of rolling road testing the car as they don't have any in-house facilities! And again assured me that the car was, in their opinion, a C250CDi.

So what now? I'm still unsure, and when i took the car to a local tuning specilist this afternoon to get a read out, he said that because its an auto, its difficult to get accurate readings and wouldn't really prove either way. (tuner was Rick Woods Garage in Davenport, Stockport).

Funny thing is, the salesman who sold me the car text me saying to look up the returns 30 day policy online and consider it!? So do i return the car? Or try to prove its not what it is? Or shut up an get on?

The other kicker, was the garge where i took the car to be rolling rolled tuned did take a look at the ECU and said that this particular model doesn't yet have any supporting remap software available for it, and couldn't offer any other support.

So, currently have a gorgeous car, that feels lacking in performance, has all the documentation pointing at a 220 model and yet i'm told and seen via the Oasis system its a 250.

Hmmmm :confused::(:crazy:

Steve You shouldn't have sold your Porshe

Agreed and all the more important with DPFs

Yeah i am slowly but surely getting used to the new wheels under foot. And chalk an cheese is the difference, ...

Years ago I had a lowly 325i from work for a couple of months and then had to go back to my lowly diesel rep-mobile and it took me ages to get used to it again so I can't imagine what it must be like to move down from an M3!

On the MB front, I had an E Class when my C270CDi was last in for service. I was sure the paperwork said it was an E250CDi and I thought it went reasonably well. I was gobsmacked when I opened the bonnet at home to have a gander and saw it was a V6 350CDi, I wouldn't have believed that from driving it.

Big car the E class. A c350 I bet will feel a lot quicker

So true. I come to the conclusion that Sport mode keeps the engine in the max power band with insufficient consideration to torque. I believe on the upshift that it is about 400 rpm too high - you can modify the settings in the 7G/7G+ to change these points (there's another post somewhere here that discusses this). I wonder more people have not done this because I reckon it would a make a more (+ve) difference to the feel of the car than an engine remap.
