Boy racers not signalling and tailgating an inch from your rear!!

This came from a young guy in work who also doesn't use indicators when changing lanes or turning in the works van.

apparently "its GAY to use indicators" !!!!!!

Unbelievable I know, but he also has another motto ...

" its safe to pull out (enough room) in front of another car (side road etc) as long as you cant see the white of the drivers eyes"

Ive seen him in action and it just begs belief, who knows where they get these from, is it part of the tutition???
Surely this is the same mentality as those that shout about not being seen dead with an automatic, or diesel powered car. Live and let live. If they want to tail-gate, just stop...................... Then get out of the car.  :D

John

I don't advocate this at all... But I have done the following in the past...

Don't copy as its not big or clever...

For a saxo driver tailgating in the snow - deliberately spun the (rear) wheels and covered his windscreen in snow...

For a nova driver tailgating at 35 (twas a 30 zone so I felt the tailgating was certainly unnecessary - speeding kills, don't do it) I braked to 30 and he decided to gesture to indicate he felt my driver skills were lacking and indeed I was a bad person, at which point while maintaining eye contact in the rear view mirror applauded his sense of judgement... When he applauded me back I applied brakes quickly and firmly at the pedestrian crossing, causing him to require a change of pants and a repair to his alloy from mounting the curb.

Needless to say he kept a large distance from then on.

Don't follow my example. Its not big or clever. Just call the police via your hands free kit.

Be careful who you choose to 'brake-test' - I did it a few years ago to a van, perhaps it was a mistake when at the traffic lights whereupon I applied my brakes slightly harder than normal, the van driver promptly got out and retrieved a decent length of 4x2 and proceeded to march towards my car.

Luckily the lights changed and I went on my way, hastily.

Since, I haven't retaliated ever again, I just ignore and drive carefully. They generally overtake when they can, if they're able. I let them.

i hope this is tongue in cheek john.
equate well behaved drivers like some of us here with over 20 yrs experience with one tailgater who passed his test last week just because we do not like diesels/ autos is a bit OTT

My pet hate! People who retaliate against tail gaters. If you watch where you are going instead of concentrating on an idiot behind, you may not hit that little girl who walked out in front of you on a zebra crossing. I am not saying don't use your mirrors, but don't make such a big issue over someone who is close behind you, if they hit you its their fault, if you brake for no reason and he hits you its your fault and Barry behind will probably not be alone so he will have witnesses, so at best it becomes knock for knock and you loose your no claims as well as him. Oh and being hit in the rear is NOT always the other persons fault, especially if the other people are police, army, ambulance of fire. I have been hit by three of the four mentioned, once while paying my tolls at the Severn bridge and I was deemed at fault:eek:

I agree with most of your post... except, if you get hit from behind it's always the hitter's fault not the hittee's. It doesn't matter what the reason for stopping was!
I don't know the circumstances of your accidents, but if you were hit while stationary it is the other party at fault.

Driving through Torquay form east to west on the coast road in 1996 for the first time in my life driving a Swedish reg 300TE, at one point I did not know if I needed to go left or straight on, a tail gating SL driver jumped out at the lights shouting at me,banging on the windows, he then broke off my Star and the lights went green and I drove way. The most terrifying moment of my life

How did they prove that? Were you deemed - Paying a toll without due care and attention?

I blame the lack of police on the roads.

Its entirely possible to drive like a complete tosspot and escape the attentions of speed cameras - the only visible 'enforcement' on our roads.

What this problem needs is more people like Howard's friend Dave!

I agree with this totally. I do a fair bit of driving and with the amount of dangerous/illegal driving I see every week I'm sure that if I were a traffic cop I'd be a very busy person!!

It's not only the boy racers that drive dangerously. There are plenty of middle aged and older drivers who drive equally as bad.

I’m not defending the boy racers but from my experiences on the road the more mature (in age) people are the main culprits to tailgating and not indicating!

I agree with most thats already ben said... I had an Fiesta ST do the same to me on saturday, just let him pass, but i kept unintentionally catching up to him everytime he tailgated another car!. but also, what about the idiots who do not move out of the overtaking lane, and think they own it! traffic would run alot smoother if they sorted these idiots out! (as well as the tailgater boy racers).

This (finally) drags me into the whole debate :p

Not a traffic cop; but you would still be giving a hand! (and by you I don't mean just Chriswt, I do mean anyone who complains about the lack of police)

I've sent off my papers (eventually) now I'm just waiting for the mailmen to start delivering again! (though I will sheepishly agree that my main reason to apply was this secret dream of mine to pull out a badge on someone stepping out of a car when I honked at them :p) (hey, I'm half Italian - if your driving gets on my nerves, I WILL let you know!)

Specials in Cambs can eventually go out with Traffic after a predetermined period of commitment, not sure about other force areas.

Specials can't do the high-grade driving stuff, of course, but if it's an area of interest, go for it! I still aim to get my application in this year.

I used to be a Special for Essex police although it was 10 years ago when I was 19 years old! I enjoyed it but I was too young and it was a heck of a commitment. I had to give it up a couple of years later when I went to uni (as a mature student).

Well done Spinal and good luck.

well this one started today so there is no may post on it.
except you are waiting till may next year:)

I drove from Newcastle to Leeds tonight.

I got into Leeds, and up pulls a Corsa with 20 inch rims behind me. Music blaring and he was cutting here there and everywhere.

I applied my brakes when i realised he was getting dangerously close. He then backed off. Jumped into the other lane. Hazard warned me. Got behind me and then flashed me.

I let the fool drive on. After a 90 minute drive i could not be bothered to confront the toerag.

Crazy person.

btw i am 27, am i being stupid for not condoning this behaviour?

I feel as though some people are not fit to drive..
WHERE ARE THE POLICE WHEN YOU NEED THEM????????? NO YOUR NOT STUPID these days he could of pulled out a knife or even worse a gun!!!!!!!!!!
