c250td engine tick question

The sprocket is a centrifugal advance mechanism. The job doesn’t require any special tools but it does make it easier. I have a pdf of instructions somewhere if I can find it.

Did you service the car after buying it?

All the pumps are bosch. I ran mine on a mix of veg oil during the summer with no mods, I also noticed it definitely made it quieter.

Dieselman, :( unless I have missed something I have done what you have asked, you suggested I buy a mechanics stethoscope, as I mentioned earlier, I have bought a sealey one off ebay earlier, and I have done the high rev and let it drop to idle, to see if the injectors are leaking? Was there something else??
Do I need to hold it high for x amont of seconds and then let it go to idle?
I'm not as well versed on diesels as I am on petrols, so ignore my noobness.:dk:

I haven't done a full service yet, the oil was done only 2k ago according to the receipts (no reason not to believe them, the oil seems clean for a diesel car), it needs a new air filter though, but Halfords as always didn't have the particular one that I need (it's always the case). Water is good, although I should test it's concentration.

And as for the temp, the noise is there, hot or cold.

Will feed it some veggie oil later, thinking of putting some thicker engine oil in it next time round, after a flush.
Also when I rev it from under the bonnet, I can see some air gushing down that new pipe when coming off load (is that a clue at all)?

That PDF would be gread 91dm.

Hi.

The only time you revved it high was when in the car and it wasn't possible to hear the engine note.

While ever there is fuel needed to power the engine it's impossible to say whether the noise is combustion related or mechanical.

Can you do the rev test from under the bonnet. Don't play with the accelerator, just rev it right up hard then let it fall straight back to idle.

Listen while the engine is on the over-run. If it goes quiet until the fuel comes back on at 1000 rpm, it's combustion, if it still does it it's mechanical.

Ok, gotcha, btw, is that a profile pic one of you trying to instruct me on how to rev my car high? Will report back tomorrow.

I've put some veggie oil into it, and it's gone quiet. It's probably 70% veggie oil now. What does that tell us? (timing? combustion? mechanical?)

Does the veggie oil being thicker just lubricate the pistons rings better so it doesn't rattle so much.

As for that stethoscope, they sent it to my parents house in wales, so I can't get to that for 3 weeks. I asked them (the seller, not my parents) to send it to me in liverpool, they refused, annoying.

Hi

One thing it does tell you is that it isn't piston slap:D:D:D:D:D

They go lovely and quiet with even the tiniest bit of veg.

Don't get carried away with the percentage, I have run mine on percentages nearing 100% but that was in middle of hot spell. They get lethargic with the higher percentage veg.

Does she feel as is she has more torque now?? I always thought they felt more torquey on their first sniff of veg and wondered did anyone else get the same??

Good luck

I agree, it's quieter and power delivery seems smoother, it doesn't feel so eager to rev hard with the turbo, I guess I'll throw some diesel into it to tone it down a notch.

So what does the lack of sound tell me about the symptoms (if it's not piston slap). Could it be a timing issue since the veggie oil has a different (octance, or whatever it is) rating? I'm still inclinded towards what dm61 had (blocked oil well in the timing gear).

one thing to note after the 1st 1000 miles or tank of veg oil , you will need t replace the prefilter and main filter fuel , I ran mine on bio and I was told that it cleans all the crap out of the lines and tank , and lo and behold when I changed my prefilter or in my case cleaned it by spraying wd40 over it and rinsing it in diesel it was blocked solid with black gunk ! I couldn't believe how much dirt was in my tank ,apparently veg or bio is a much cleaner fuel than derv and cleans out all the crud .

Where is the prefilter?
I wonder what kind of numbers would come out of an emissions test?
