C350e owners club

Just had a bit of a shock when it comes to replacing a windscreen.

If you have the options for auto headlights and driver assist package you have to have the car recalibrated to the screen. My car is leased and they use auto glass. I was told I would have to a 200 mile round trip to get it to a centre to get it fixed and they only do this 3 days a week. Fortunately the lease company agreed that this was in un reasonable and authorised my local dealer to do it. They hope to have the screen next day and will do the job properly. I dread to think what it will cost. You have been warned!

Good to know, thanks for the heads up.

I got a bit worried as my screen got a couple of very small coating chips early on, they've not gone anywhere and no more, touch wood. Only a matter of time though...

On tyre news, following the discussion here I took a closer look and while the outer grooves on my rears were fine, the inner grooves were down to the wear indicator. A trip to quick fit and a new set put on. I did get a different tyre (Cinturato P7 instead of SportContacts5), Lease wouldn't pay for Contis apparently!

Only done 3k on mine so far therefore not an issue yet but on my old C220 I had terrible trouble with insides wearing far quicker than outsides despite tracking being checked and ok. Same applied to the rears! Last tyres lasted 9k and were fine on the outside but down to the wire on the inside! Tyre pressure alarm gave it away but could have been dangerous and expensive. I check the tyres with reasonable care but suggest more care from now on by crawling underneath as it seems to be a Merc trait!
Also, will be replacing with something other than ContiSport. I notice some come with Hankook nowadays - any experience of them anyone?

I have Hankooks on, but only for 1600 miles. Interesting that MB has deployed a controlled tyre pressure test on me:

Only 9,000 miles on a set of rear tyres? I got 11,000 from the rears on my 700hp E63, and I light them up away from a stop fairly often (my inner Barry too powerful still). Even then it was only the inner shoulders, the rest of the tread was 4mm.

Long time lurker here, after 7 months of patience, 1st Sept I pick my 66 plate saloon.

Polar white, sport premium, ILS and privacy glass. Now regretting not having distronic plus added on.

Anyone who has a source/polar charge card what is the experience of charging around London?

Dave

Hi Dave, I do 90% of my charging with Source London as there is a point under 5 minutes walk from my house.

Positives:

1. Price
2. The app is really good and accurately tells you when chargers are free.
3. They appear to still be building out the network, so are adding points regularly (perhaps not fast enough, but given the price they charge can't complain)
4. Good service. I've had to ring their helpline a couple of times (lost card/not working point) and got answered really quickly.

Negatives:

1. They are taking over the networks previously run by councils and in my experience a number of charging points simply don't work (but of course show up on the app as being free). I use the Source London app in conjunction with 'Plug share' which can be better at alerting you to points that are listed but not working.

Hope that helps.

The difference is that the only heavy thing in the E63 was your right foot!
I have a heavy right foot and a tonne of batteries in the boot!

Indeed - awaiting delivery of mine (3 weeks away now - been a long wait since January!), and only replaced the rears on my E220 (which I haven't been that gentle with) after 26k miles. My fronts are still looking good after 29k.

It'll be interesting moving to a car which eats them in a third of the time - thankfully all covered by the lease!

After 10K miles. I cant charge and cant find the Intertek manual.

Anyone know what the red light is for I presume its an issue on the car end. I've tried resting the cable removing and trying the other plug, locking and unlocking the car etc. But nothing.

Hi Dodgy, any chance you can explain what "deployed a controlled tyre pressure test on me" means? Have MB asked you to do something or done some additional checks?
Thanks!

Sorry - it was the fronts which wore away quickly on the inside edge. The rears also wore away on the inside edges only, but that was after nearly 25k so I cannot complain about that. It is the way they look fine from a quick inspection, even with the steering on full lock, but shockingly worn on the inside edge.

From memory that is the light that I got when the control unit went wrong on mine. :(

Wear on the inside edges on fronts tyres normally indicates that quite a bit of camber angle has been dialled in - a normal action for track work (as you corner hard the suspension on the leading wheel compresses making the front wheel 'tuck-under' so some camber angle then ensures more surface of the tyre is placed on the road). However, with respect, on a C220 it was probably more likely the front bushes were knackered!
Inside edge of rears is harder to understand in performance terms. The rude boys like to have lots of camber on the rear - they think it looks good (they are of course wrong!:fail). The other reason could be that the rear bushes were knackered

That light is called the "fault indicator". It means there's a problem with either the charger or the vehicle connection. The green light next to it means the electricity supply is fine. The troubleshooting guide says "contact your equipment supplier". :(

Thanks,

Strange as it would not let me remove the charger out of the car on monday until a few attempts of locking and unlocking.

Also on Weds morning its was still indicating the 2 lights on and off as if it was still charging after 10 hours.

If its the control unit on the car do you know the lead time? I'll take it in tomorrow.

Thanks

After the first front fails I had the tracking etc checked but indeed when it was parked on full lock it did look like the wheel was falling off! The C220 had only done 75k at the time and 5yrs old so to be so knackered would have been disappointing. Agree regarding rude boys; also laughable to see tyres much narrower than the rims which to them look hyper cool but to me look plain wrong! Maybe I'm old...

Nothing so exciting. Just that when the car turned up, the tyre pressures are higher on the left than on the right and too high on the front but about right on the back. So much for a careful pre-delivery inspection.

I'll bet whoever checked the tyres didn't realise there's 200kg of batteries in the boot, didn't check what the pressures should have been, didn't pay much attention when (if) they checked and probably didn't give a damn. Unless it was done in Germany, in which case they were probably sacked.

To be fair it isn't that easy to get them spot on. Having inflated up to the heavy car setting I have now reduced the pressure to the standard settings. Before and after I have noticed how sensitive tyres are to heat even the difference between the shady side and the sunny side of the car can give a difference of 10kpa. The recommended tyre pressures are for warm tyres too.
