C350e owners club

Hi,

Where did you get the charging cable from? The one that came with the car is a lot thicker, curls and a real pain. Only 4M long too, due to be replaced with the 8M.

Nice parking space! It looks like an 8m cable might almost have been enough without the extension lead...

Lots of rolled eyes from your travelling companion?

I think the 8m would have reached yeah.

My charge solution which I use at home (and at work currently until we fingers crossed get Type-2 points) is a 15m 13A rated single extension which goes into a weatherproof box containing the socket and the charge pack itself, the 4m yellow curly cable comes out of that and goes into the car.

I usually charge at 8A and all is good, I try and restrict 13A to when it's urgent and a bit cooler weather.

There was some huffing as I passed the plug through the window...... ;) Meant the journey from Chessington to home was 80MPG instead of 40 though!

Hi Dave, I do 90% of my charging with Source London as there is a point under 5 minutes walk from my house.

Positives:

1. Price
2. The app is really good and accurately tells you when chargers are free.
3. They appear to still be building out the network, so are adding points regularly (perhaps not fast enough, but given the price they charge can't complain)
4. Good service. I've had to ring their helpline a couple of times (lost card/not working point) and got answered really quickly.

Negatives:

1. They are taking over the networks previously run by councils and in my experience a number of charging points simply don't work (but of course show up on the app as being free). I use the Source London app in conjunction with 'Plug share' which can be better at alerting you to points that are listed but not working.

Hope that helps.

Hi Damian

Thanks for the info. I have got my source and polar cards delivered this week.
Where I live the developers will install a number of charging points within the next few months so that solves my issue with getting one installed in a communal underground car park. I've seen a Nissan Leaf plugged to a 13A socket and the number of times it has been trodden on concerned me. If I can do my commute in e - mode to me it is a bonus.

Picking the car up today so looking forward to it.

Will post pics up later

Has anyone had a problem with the alarm sounding unexpectedly. Happened twice last night. On the second time I went out and opened my boot and closed it the reason being it's just been repaired and may have no relevance but thought I should mention it.

Winter Tyres

I've been in touch with MB "Customer Service" about winter tyre sizes for the C350e. As you probably know, certain options on the estate model force you to have 18" wheels, and I was interested to know if I had to stick with this size for winter. There is no information in the manual or on the car.

Their reply in italic:

I can confirm that the best winter tyre for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle is the Pirelli - Sottozero 3 (95) load rating (H) Speed rating (Non Run-flat), this tyre is the same size as the tyres that are currently fitted on your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. (i.e. 225/45/18 front and 245/40/18 rear.)

My Technical Department also advised 17 inch winter tyres for your vehicle:
Front - 7J X 17 H2 ET48.5 (225/50/17 tires)
Rear - 8J X 17 H2 ET54 (245/45/17 tires)

So it would seem we can drop to 17" rims for winter which helps a bit with costs. They clearly don't want to drop from a non-staggered setup though which is a shame. Must be all that battery weight they are worried about!

I thought the 18" were mandatory because of extra weight on the premium packs, but then they let you drop to 17" winter tyres.....bit strange.....

I agree. That's why I wanted confirmation from MB, rather than me just guessing at it.

On the other hand, plenty of big powerful cars drop a size (or two) for winter tyres, so who knows.:dk:

Mine did it day one, I think it was the bonnet not properly shut after having a look!

Never since though

Anyone else found that since the Mercedes Me Connect web app update the mpg is stuck and not corresponding to what the car is doing?

Dunno about that but my consumption has gone to litres which is of course meaningless!

Mine switched to litres, but I've switched it back now. It seems to be correct from start and from reset.

Yeah mine changed to litres too, I changed it and it looked fine but now it's just stuck at 80mpg for both things, even though the car shows completely different figures. Seeing the issue on my laptop and on the phone. Now it says "updated 3 days ago" on the PC and "updated 14 hours ago" on my phone.....very odd, I dropped them an email using a fairly generic form but was hoping there was a dedicated Mercedes Me Connect email/support form somewhere....

I think there is a bug where it only ever shows 80MPG maximum in the app now, so because my "since start" is 99.9MPG and my "since reset" is currently 94.1MPG, it only shows 80MPG.....hopefully they will fix.

No issues here - I had to change from litres to mpg which was easy enough but my Mercedes Me web app showed 99.9 for the weekend use as I was driving wholly on electric..

Have a ticket logged now and am providing photos/screenshots to them.

If I switch to litres/100km and then convert the figures to mpg are correct but switch the app to mpg (imp) and they are always 80mpg, very strange.

Getting same thing in Windows 8.1 + Firefox and Chrome as I am on my phone which is Android 6.0 + Chrome.

My update reset the settings to metric as well, but switched it back to mpg.
Today it is showing 80mpg too, but I just thought that's what it was!
Will see if it changes after my journey home tonight.

Showing 80mpg here as well, despite having used no fuel since start. I've heard that some other manufacturers limit the maximum to 80mpg and thought "that's rubbish - I'm glad the Merc goes to 99.9". I actually wish it went higher. Given the quoted 135mpg combined fuel economy, I'd have liked to see the max at 150 or 200mpg...

I see the car still reports up to 99.9. At least we don't get over-the-air updates that mess that up
