C350e owners club

Anybody fancy owning up to the Cat D C350e on Autotrader at the moment for £16,950?

Not me! Too busy still trying to kid myself it's economical by driving like a saint to write it off...

Can you get a Cat D from a technology failure or is it always a collision?

Mine has tried to kill me twice in the past week exiting greasy roundabouts, I'm not sure the TC has activated yet...

So perhaps keep a look out for another!

If you noticed the slide and you didn't crash it is obvious that either (a) you are Tiff Needel (b) you are very lucky (c) you have the TC 'on' and it did work.

For a bit of 'fun' I switched mine off (it doesn't switch-off completely just allows more movement before cutting in). I have driven a lot of RWD cars and have been very good at drifting roundabouts, long corners, etc. However, when the torque of the engine and the electric motor cut-in I fully understood the meaning of 'snap oversteer' and I definitely could not catch it (fortunately in a closed and empty car park so no damage done apart from the need for new underwear!).

I think they've messed up the ad, it's not a C350e - too old (64 plate) and description is not of a C350e. The giveaway though is the lack of charge port on the rear bumper!

I usually drive in Comfort mode (if the family are in the car), or Economy if it's just me, but after a long journey home today I got stuck behind someone doing 30 in a 50 limit, so I knocked-it up to Sport+ to help me overtake... OMG! New underwear required, but what a blast! This thing can fly!!

Had a weird problem with my 4 month old C350e the other day: the COMAND screen was entirely dead. It had worked the day before (and every other day) but it was dead for a 30 minute drive, not particularly cold (+6C) and with a fully charged battery. I tried pushing (and holding down the power button to the right of the floaty-joystick thing, but to no avail. Eventually, it powered up on its own and has worked ever since. Weird.

Anyone experience this?

Hey! Just before Christmas, thought I'd share a couple of rim-focused pics. The first is with the factory-fitted, environmental tax-mandated 17" rims (the dealer couldn't fit any other rims and still have the car qualified for lower BIK-status here in Sweden). The second is with the Leaseplan/Euromaster-supplied aftermarket rims with the winter tyres. Once I got proper Merc center caps, I think these actually look better.

Oh, and the car is a 2017 C350e in the new Selenite grey with beige interior and black piano finish. We don't have the same options packages as in the UK here, but it's a Fleet Edition with the full Distronic Plus package, Keyless and COMAND Plus SatNav (big screen).

Screw it, here's a couple of more pics as the TS was adamant about more pics... :D

I've had something similar - everything was fine one minute and then the sat nav wouldn't start up. Everything else on COMAND worked fine.

The dealer ended up having to replace the whole COMAND system

I've had the sound system not working 3 times so far. In each case it won't recognize the hard drive, SD card or bluetooth. If I stop the car, get out and lock it/unlock it all is well again. Seem to happen if I've unlocked/locked several times before getting in.

Hmmm....hope I won't have to replace the whole system. Mine was just dead dead - nothing on COMAND worked but all the functions in the multi-function display in the instrument cluster worked. Started by itself after 40 minutes or so...

Looks like my 3 pin charge pack is playing up, I suspect broken or loose wiring as a bit of fiddling gets it going. But it's days are numbered, going to contact the dealer but am concerned it's not going to be as easier as it should be.

Good luck. I use mine nearly every day, so it's probably headed in the same direction. Maybe fitting a charge point isn't such a bad idea after all...

Could somebody verify for me please; I have a 16 plate C350e with the small screen sat nav. (i.e. not Command) The sat nav will not accept a postcode with only 1 initial letter. I wanted to put in M5 4LT but I cant put a number after the M. I can put a letter. I have tried with a Liverpool postcode also that is only a single letter. Is this something I am doing wrong or just a crap sat nav?

You hust select the number after the first letter

Had to laugh earlier - wife was looking at Mini's so I thought I'd take advantage of the charger at the BMW garage next door. I don't have a Chargemaster card so asked at reception if they had one to use. Out came a salesman more than happy to get it working but first they needed to find out who's Mercedes was in the way and get it moved. He looked a little surprised when I explanined it was mine. I got a full free charge though!!

The call started off hopeful with talk of replacing it but then they insisted I book the whole car in :(

I'm hoping when I get there and can demonstrate it going on and off even when not connected to the vehicle it will mean they don't need to waste time poking about with the car!

A bit random...but, has anyone seen a chassis dyno plot for the C350e yet? I'm just curious to see what the curves look like with the two power sources working together. I've seen some YouTube posts where folk rant on about how the power & torque figures of the electric motor plus the ICE add up to more than the quoted maximum figures for the car. They don't seem to realise that the two sources have different curves and you can't just add up the maximums. There could also be some electronic limiting going on as well of course.

Also interested if anyone has any detailed information on how the car manages the battery capacity. Again, assorted rants about 'why only 5KWh of usable power' etc. BMW were up-front about the fact that the car will only charge to 80% capacity and discharge to 20% in order to protect the HV battery pack. I strongly suspect that the Mercedes is just the same and the numbers kind of bear that out.

All the above is just idle curiosity - I'm perfectly happy with what it does and how it does it. No rant intended or implied!!

What is the max amount of miles people are getting on electric only?

Had our car from new for just under a year and now done 8k. Max we are getting on electric only is about 8 miles..
