C350e owners club

Thanks to a short commute and city living I'm now averaging over 99.9mpg over 2000 miles. Pretty good going but I was wondering if there is anywhere the mpg is recorded above 99.9? The app and screen on the car both appear top out at that.
A few months ago, I changed the “units” to km. Once you do this, you are presented with consumption in L/100km. As I had suspected, those strange steps in mpg are in fact steps of .1 L/100km. Instead of maxing out at 99 mpg, consumption drops all the way to 0. I now often see local 30 mile journeys of 3L or if I recharge at both ends of the journey, 2L. Helped by this feedback, my fuel usage has tumbled and I spot opportunities to engage E mode earlier.

Looks like Mercedes the C-Class hybrid is continuing as a C300e and C300de. The C300e isn't showing on the UK configurator yet, but has been launched elsewhere. The C300e is the replacement for the C350e with the same petrol engine, but now with the 9 speed box and a battery with twice as much juice as before. Not sure why the badge has been "downgraded" though.

I trust and hope you have your new 300d and like me are loving it.
I am indeed enjoying the C300d - in most ways it is a good replacement for the C350e. Annoyingly the optional 19inch wheels would have taken it to a higher tax bracket so I am running the standard AMG wheels. The higher profile tyres make it slightly less 'planted' than my old C350e but in performance terms it is a good match. I do a mixture of 20mile commuter runs and 350mile+ visits every week. The biggest positive is the size of the fuel tank (typically 500mile range) - no more planning routes to allow for fuel stops! A small but pleasing addition is Apple Car Play!

Here you go.... Battery charge display with a destination set in navigation. With the engine in Economy mode the green halo at the front of the car appears highlighting the car is calculating when it's best to use the battery or ICE. Flick it into Comfort (or Sport or Sport+ for that matter) and the halo and hence power train management for the journey disappears. I sometimes find it useful then to set a route Home -> Away -> Home, using intermediate destinations with Home the final destination. That way you usually find it reserves some battery for the journey back. Of course you can do this all manually yourself by using ESave. Still a nice feature to play with occasionally!

Is that with Command or Garmin nav? Usually the green halo appears in a few moments after the journey has commenced, not whilst stationary at start.

This is audio 20/garmin.

I was stationary in traffic so had been driving hence the appearance that I'm parked. I just don't think the cheapo version has the clever battery management thing

Reckon you must be right on that count. It's another little bit extra in terms of toys to play with. As I've mentioned in previous posts I think you can manage it better yourself by using ESave at appropriate times on a journey.

This has been my first experience of a Mercedes and I've enjoyed life in my 17-plate c350e - until now. A brake warning light came on so I limped to my local dealer in Collindale to be told it needed a new hydraulic unit. No problem, it's under warranty. But the car is still sitting there, 7 weeks later, while they wait for the part. Is this normal for Mercedes? I thought they were supposed to have good customer service? On the plus side, they've put me in a GLA so at least I now know never to buy one of those in the future. Awful car.

Good news that it's covered by warranty and that despite the long wait they have provided you with a courtesy car, shame it's a GLA! I've had a B class previously, not much better than a van tbh! From the cars that colleagues and myself have had over the years I don't think any of the 'Prestige car manufactures' deliver against their (imo undeserved reputations). With the exception that is of Lexus maybe and that's because our 2 cars in the company have only ever needed to go in for routine service!

True. I shouldn't complain. And the GLA is much better at handling speed bumps. Or is that just because it's not my car? ;)

Hi guys, new to the forum and considering buying a C350e. I’m a bit confused on the road tax on these, can anyone with a second hand post march 2017 plate tell me what road tax you are paying.

I am going to find it interesting to compare the c350e economy with my s205 c200se economy. The mpg figures are somewhat misleading as presumably they only measure the petrol consumed mpg and do not "account" for the electrical energy in the mpg figure?

@DITTRICH that’s right, the guessometer doesn't factor in the electrical energy at all, so it is only petrol mpg it reports. Last trip out in ours yesterday gave roughly 85mpg equivalent cost for the electricity it used. On track to get well over 1000 miles out of the current tank of fuel. 743 miles from 57% of a tank. Don't get too excited though, we do lots of short trips! As I've said often, not sure why we have a car at all at times.

the car counts all mileage with engine not running as electric mileage. If you subtract electric mileage from total mileage on a tank and divide by the fuel you refueled with, you get a scary figure, in my case, of 25 to 30mpg. I tend to do at least half of my miles on electric.

I'm 9000+ miles in on my 2016 C350e and averaging 49.6mpg. It's impossible to discuss mpg without discussing the driving profile. In my case, I have a 15-mile journey to work every day and drop into central London once or twice a week which is 26 miles each way. I can get over 100mpg to work and still leave 6 miles on electric to get back. The upshot of driving like an old fart is that the tyres and discs hardly get any wear at all! I've tried everything I can to fiddle with all permutations, but in general, ECO Hybrid and ECO ESave work well for me.

I just signed up for the care plan at £40/month as I had a £700 service looking - let's see how that goes.

From a driving experience - if I place my CLS55 at 10/10 and my CLS350cdi at 8/10 and my E220 at 5/10 then the C350e would sit at about 6/10. There's no getting away from the battery weight, the sports, and sports+ modes are chronic in terms of auto shifts and the brakes are god awful in feel and judder. But the car isn't about this. As a means to an end, it's saved me shed load of cash - tax, insurance, ULEZ, tyres, discs etc. When I park in London I nearly always get a free top-up at NCP/Q-Park etc and dropping into available roadside spaces with a charge point is brill.

Would I recommend? That would depend and what you wanted from the car - so perhaps would be my answer!

There's lots to like and some things to dislike. It's not my best Merc, but almost the most practical (sorry - but the CLS350cdi takes that award).

It is a keeper though (not least as the Care Plan is 3years!) - but serves a purpose for me now.
