C350e owners club

Hi Saxon6..

Actually I live at the bottom of that part of Newham Lane but haven't as yet tried driving the C350e up there - I doubt it would get up it in E-Mode!

You're right I probably should ride to work but it's too bloody cold and I'm too unfit these days! I used to ride up to Chanctonbury regularly from my house - it would probably kill me now:eek:

I see you have a 4C! I desperately tried to buy one when they launched in 2014 but no matter how hard I pestered the Alfa dealers they wouldn't take my deposit - I gave up in the end and bought the XKR. I still lust after a 4C though - beautiful little car!

My outlaws live just off the high street, beautiful part of the world. I think if I cycled up to Chanctonbury ring now I'd be more dead than the cars battery...

As for the 4C, I have a launch edition, and it is without any doubt the most fun I have ever had in a car away from a track. The C350e is poised, quiet and refined, the Alfa is the complete polar opposite, loud, rash, and raw, and I love every minute spent in it. Did you get the chance to test one?

Did you go to Geneva to order your 4C LE? I read that to get one you had to hand over a wad of cash to AR at the Geneva show before they had even built one! I have not had the pleasure of a drive or a ride in one as yet, nearest I got was to sit in the car on show at the Festival of Speed. It was love at first sight but in the end I got tired of chasing AR and lost interest. Funnily enough I had been looking at used ones on Auto Trader earlier today before we started this conversation! It is still an itch I need to scratch.

Probably best to not hijack this thread with 4C chitchat. Extremely happy to discuss the 4C but might be best to do this as a private message. I can't see how to PM you, do you know??

Just PM'ed you but it appears you have the option switch off

1 week into 'ownership'

600 miles so far and have observed a few odd features / gremlins:

Rear Seatbelt Message - someone else raised this on a thread but I cannot find where and what if anything can be done to deactivate this feature. A colleague had the same with his Volvo but his only came on if he opened a rear door before starting the car. I've experimented in the same way but it comes on every time regardless of door opening sequencing. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Loss of Rear Camera - I've had one incidence of the camera refusing to come on. I've not messed with the settings and it had worked a few minutes earlier. Switching everything off and on again didn't seem to work. It wouldn't even let me open the cover even though the functionality was available (not greyed out). Fortunately this happened as I was parking on my drive, so I left the car for a few hours and upon my return it all worked normally and has done ever since.

Loss of Media and Radio Volume - similar to the above (different day) and the nav volume still worked. I checked the mutes and rolled up and down on the volume wheel/rockers all to no avail. Turning on and off didn't work, but leaving the car for a few hours, I was then greeted to ear splitting rock from my iPod on restart.

In both of the above loss scenarios a leave it off for a while and then restart seemed to have worked and no reoccurrences so far. Has anyone else experienced such gremlins or are these operator errors that I'm not realising that I've instigated with my first MB?

On the plus side I'm very impressed with the refinement and grunt when required and thanks to the threads on here I was eyes wide open re the electric range.

I've raised this a few times, and it bugs the bleep out of me.

I spoke to mercedes yesterday and was told that this was a feature that cant be controlled. (Blurghhhhhhh).. Probably rubbish, and i'm assuming by plugging in we can sort this, but for now, stuck with it.

Such a fancy car, and yet it cant tell if anyones in the back seats or not...

Annoys me too - at least it goes away if you press OK on steering wheel, but you would think it would know if there was weight on the seat.:fail

Oh for goodness sake! Learn to live with this one; it'll turn itself off after about 30 seconds if you don't do anything anyway. The reason is simple. There are no pressure switches under the rear seats so this is a very useful safety feature when you've got restless kids or very elderly passengers in the back whose belts are or come undone. I've been glad of it on a few occasions in the last eight years with my C320cdi.

Just got back from the dealership where they replaced my O2 sensor, so all good now. Interestingly they asked me if someone had been rooting around under the bonnet as there were some wires loose/unplugged (wtf?) - I said the bonnet hasn't been opened in the 3 weeks I've had the car. I hope I haven't got some kind of lemon or "Friday" car.

p.s. full charge (showing 12 miles range) barely managed 8.1 miles to the dealer driving like miss daisy. 8 miles back with zero charge managed 55.4mpg in hybrid mode.

Also, a full charge only takes 1.5 hours on a normal 3-pin socket in 13A mode. No need to get a special charge point for this car.

I concur with this - I'd had the same on my E220 and you'll get used to it. Quick click of the OK and the message disappears.

Has been useful with the kids in the back before.

No kids :) just wishing for the option to turn it off really. Can completely understand its use though.

Oh dear doesn't sound good.

Re. chargers, there is a lot of discussion in some other threads on RCDs and charger choices. I got a PODPOINT installed, but still waiting for elec supplier to pull their finger out and sort their meter.

I use the 3pin but its a faff trailing it out of a window, and the plug gets quite hot, so who knows what its doing to the wiring.

If I had a garage with a plug, then perhaps I wouldn't have bothered!

have to agree, the charge is quite quick, popped it onto the work charge point. Showing 40 percent full (but only 2 miles limit... typical) - took 50 minutes and shows 13 miles again! :P lol.... But quick enough for me :)

Yep I was going to get a Rolec point installed but the final price came to around £300 which I didn't want to pay (partly on principle given that there's meant to be a £500 gov grant).

So I got my local electrician to put a cheapo outdoor 3 pin socket on the side of the house and it works fine. I've heard others having issues with warm plugs etc but I suppose YMMV depending on your wiring. Mine doesn't seem to get warm/hot.

Yeah I got the £700 grant so my charger was more reasonable.

On a better note, after attacking my car with a diesel nozzle (don't ask!) I got my first "nice car" from someone who wasn't a dealer employee, work colleague or family member!

Yeah , I managed to get the full grant back in December

£205 Rolec 32a

Fair enough, and perhaps we shouldn't labour this any more. But the principle with any critical safety feature is that it should not be possible to turn it off in case you forget to turn it on again when it is needed.

In a head-on when you're driving, it is not the car in front that kills you, it's the 85kg guy in the back seat.

He, very true again. Note to self... no fat people behind me (or anyone so not to be fattest...)... Only for pillow storage :) :)

First public charge... Both bays taken by non ev cars... gonna get used to this I feel!!
