C63 507 Model Register

That’s good advice for sure, I’ll try and remember that NEXT TIME I buy a car... the black 507 is now sat on my drive!

I feel sorry for you guys, cos I’ve just bought the best car out there!

Yeah I know, new purchase euphoria etc, but seriously, on the 80 mile drive home I just couldn’t stop grinning. Just a fabulous car. But then you guys know how fabulous they are already.

The car drives much smoother than I expected, certainly not what I was expecting compared to the SLK 55 I had a while ago. In all aspects it’s actually a lot more refined than I’d anticipated.

I think my comments about the 18” rims being good because they’ll give a smoother ride now seem out of place, I can’t really imagine 19” rims turning it into a kidney rattler.

So I just gotta decide if I want to do anything about the rims now. And, although I want to keep things subtle and not ‘hot rod’ it, I am wondering if a light sprinkling of carbon fibre goodies (ie defuser, mirrors, stock style boot spoiler) might just be the icing on the cake?

All in all... very happy!
Welcome to the club. I'll update your car's record and if you could let me have details of the engine builder that would be really appreciated, thanks.

Yes, already on the list as the owner put it up for sale towards the end of last year but presumably didn't get any takers.

Forgot to mention it has secondary decat too!

Can’t see why it’s not gone in 60 seconds with all those tasteful upgrades :D

I might go with both , Himalaya for summer, black for winter. I’m not planning on SORN as some of the best drives I’ve had are over the winter months. :thumb:

Why don’t you do one type on the drivers side, and another type the passenger side? (All 19”/same size and staggered for f&r of course)

Think of the photo option opportunities! :D

I’m sure someone purchased this recently, saw one posted the other day on a c class page on Facebook that they had just bought

Bonnets butchered to fit 507 grilles look horrendous, Projex tried a while back and the work looked shoddy

There are carbon on FRP 507 bonnets out there nowadays with and without ducting, sprayed and fitted for under £800-£900

Brand new OEM one is £2800 from MB, add about £300 for vents and ducting, insulation, another few hundred for spraying and matching it’s a £3500 All in job o_O

Me personally... I’m just waiting for one of you to dink yours and sell me one :D:D:D

Ash

I Had a close look at the holes for the bonnet vents whilst I had it open, you can see how the opening for the vent is “pressed” into the metal. Simply cutting a hole doesn’t look like a viable option to retro fit a set. Do you have any photos of the ones done by Projex:dk:

Is anyone running number plates fixed to the front with just sticky pads? Mine has a number plate surround which I’d like to do away with but don’t want to have screws and plastic caps through the number plate. The front has quite a bend in it so not sure if sticky pads will hold it with it wanting to straighten up and spring off :dk:

Looks like you’ve got a nice clean garage in the background there Andy. Good man!

Always amazes me how many guys allow lawn mowers, kids bicycles, and years of unused detritus into their man space!

Andy, in the past I’ve applied a little heat to the back side of the number plate and gently persuade it to the shape of the plinth. This will help loads, as it won’t want to spring back to it’s original straight form. A good clean of both surfaces (as I’m sure you would) prior to using quality sticky pads.

Yes but they’re neatly done, and look like good well maintained bikes, so you still get top marks.

I was just imagining the ‘hidden’ area where you store your spare wheels... and how much better your car would look with Himalayan grey wheels...

If only you knew someone looking for some black ones, both of your ‘problems’ would be solved...;)

Gents,

I’d like to fit a carbon fibre defuser, centre part to the front spoiler, rear boot spoiler, and mirror housings.

I don’t want to change the design, I want them all stock design, just in carbon fibre.

I’m a little overwhelmed by the choices on offer from different suppliers and fear buying parts that don’t fit or look right.

Can anyone point me in the best direction?

I run Michelin Pilot Sports 4s in the Summer and Toyo Snowprox S954 for the winter set.

I think the recommended tyres are either Conti's with the MO Profile or Michelin's with the MO profile. I had problems finding the MO profile for the rears.

I had Conti's on a previous C63 and they were decent but dangerous. The Michelin's feel more planted and great wet grip.

Rocky

Thanks Rocky.

I can’t find the required sizes of Pilot Sport 4S in MO or MO1 fitment, they list them, but say ‘not available’.

Does this matter ??

I would think not. I think they do not make the 4s rears for a MO profile for the 19's for the standard fitament. I am not sure for the 18s.

Also worth trying on a few places online.

Sorry Phil, the picture I took is too large to upload?!

The builders name looks like Waldemar Bruch.

Does that sound right / familiar ?

View attachment 86672 View attachment 86673 that's great news, congrats on your purchase my friend.
as for the 19"wheels, I have the black 507 wheels and the ride is no where near as harsh as you might imagine, our daily car is GLE350 so when comparing the 2 cars the C63 is very comfortable, its doesn't tram line either, another surprise for me.

Lee, you’re a bad man, those pics of your wheels, sans machined alloy lip and AMG logo do look good and got me thinking... I think that because the spoked design is so ‘open’ the silver hub and disc, and red caliper showing through detract from the overall blackness a lot. It also occurred to me that they’ll be a doddle to touch up when the wife’s curbs them.

In fact, you got me looking at the all black refurbed OEM ones for sale on eBay. The guy confirmed they’re undamaged, no flat spots, dings, cracks, welds, etc. One thing led to another, he was open to a (slightly) lower offer, so, long story short, I bought ‘em.

Can’t quite work out if you just cost me £900 or saved me over £2000!?

Anyhow it looks like the 18” with winter tyres and 19” with summer tyres plan is go!

One option is to get the parts you’re thinking of wrapped. A few reasons CF is expensive , getting the rear spoiler off I’m told is a right pain and may get damaged, as the 507 gets older the “unmolested” ones will be sought after, a wrap will also help protect the gloss black. As with all things there is good CF wrap and not so good , same goes for application, but will be way cheaper than swapping out parts

Just my thoughts

Andy

Glad to be of help Nigel, I've just saved you a fortune!
I also think that a completely Black wheel makes the red caliper and wheel hub more pronounced with Chrome star emblems Again it is a personal preference.

Atm I'm also thinking of blacking out the chrome grill and just leaving the 3 pointed star in chrome and the same on the boot, so that everything is black or silver other than the emblems to match the wheels

Will look at that when I get some new plates :thumb:
