C63 507 Model Register

Looks very tidy Mike, can’t help thinking the Himalaya Grey alloys were made for that colour :)

Hi Andy

The black definitely makes the red AMG callipers stand out.
Either way they are a nightmare to clean!!

Mike.

Sounds like a really nice one. But unfortunately over my budget what I wanted to pay.
Guess time will tell, What I end up with
Thanks

In general, estates usually lead a harder life than Coupes (a direct function of their versatility / practicality) so that further limits the chances of an immaculate estate coming available.
A different view...

Only car guys are dedicated enough to run a C63 as a family car (I do) and car guys look after their cars. It may also mean more of the miles are done where the engine is not being ragged to death.

True.

Possibly !

But when there’s only 16 to start with, even a few bad uns has a big impact!

At least 2 estates are no longer in the U.K.

Unfortunately now I think unless you’ve got deep pockets and talk directly to a current owner and offer them a silly amount you’ll struggle to get one with low mileage (less than 20k) for anywhere under £40k.

And as for getting a coupe with low mileage, it took me 6 months to find mind but I was looking since I bought my first car back over a year ago...

I kept saying high 30’s was too much for a 507, but after viewing multiple you realise you get what you pay for. Honestly I think anyone with a similar specced car as Mickels would want 40k. I wouldn’t sell mine for that, but mines white (my preference) and I know how many hours I spent searching for one.

This I believe is the car that I viewed months ago at Mercedes Boston. Bought for ~35k and now trying to make a profit? It was for sale at Mercedes for 4-5 months and wasn’t the greatest example. Bumpers had been painted - quite visible in the picture of the side shot, particularly the rear which was filled.

Engine valve cover was also leaking, I suspect not fixed prior to being sold and also not covered under warranty if you rear the small print. (Although if the owner did take it in to be fixed I’d be happy to forward my emails as proof it was leaking prior to it being sold).

Great heads up for those in the market for a coupe and looking at this. Invaluable information Dan.

Interesting insight. If the car was being sold by MB how come they wouldn’t fix a leaking valve cover before selling it. I thought the whole point of the “MB Approved” thing was they were supposedly fault free when you bought them?

Although the photos aren’t that clear the alloys look they are starting to corrode under the lacquer.

These cars are now 5/6 years old and the “regular” C63 are could be getting on for 7 years old and there will inevitably be a huge difference out there in the quality of them, I’m sure you could write a very long post on what you’ve seen.

Hi Andy, somethings get missed. It’s a hard one to spot. Supposedly a new seal was fitted but it’s unlikely to cure it as they usually need a new cover - in which case that would be covered by the warranty.

The alloys had already been refurbished in house at Boston Mercedes. I found the edges to be very harsh and the lacquered corners to potentially already being lifted. They looked new from 5feet away but up close was not great. The AMG logo had also nearly been lost.

I could but there is no need as it’s obviously just the usual case of you get what you paid for. Cheaper cars will have had work done and no longer be ‘mint’ unless you’re very lucky. Some people don’t mind this as they will use them - and I don’t fault them at all, a cars meant to be used after all. I would however be pretty upset for someone if they paid top money for a car which turned out to be a lemon, it’s nice to have all the facts before a purchase.

Anyone seriously looking at buying one of these should be on here and asking the members about the cars, invaluable information for free...

Hi Dan

Thanks for the info, it’s got to be well worth a drink from anyone on here who is looking for a 507. As with all things you generally get what you pay for. Real “bargains” with these cars are generally rarer than a 507 Estate :)

As you know there is a real spread of money out there between the cheapest and most expensive 507 coupes (can’t speak of saloons and estates) is probably around £10k. Like yourself I looked at several and when the one in the colour , spec and condition I wanted came up I grabbed it. I paid top money but then it is in “mint” condition , and other than a couple of minor chips on the front end the paint is excellent. All I’ve spent on it so far is a new set of wiper blades (the old ones worked ok but squeaked ) and a few quid on clay and Zymol.

As I’ve said previously “good” 507s are getting harder to find and that task is not getting any easier, finding one with mint oem black alloys will be even harder unless we find the “Unicorn” who can do a factory spec refurbishment.

Hope to catch up sometime ;)

Andy

PS I haven’t totally given up on trying to get the 507 owners together for a meet up and photo opportunity :thumb:

Two good points there Dan.

I think it’s easy to get carried away in this game, get a bit obsessive about things and buy something outside what was originally intended (for some). It’s important to keep in mind what you want the car for and how it will meet your needs. The ultra low mileage ones shown on here are just stunning. And they’re worth the money to the right owner too. But for me, the car is going to get used. Even in rain. Even in winter! It’s also going to live outside!! It would be financially unwise and also kind of disrespectful, even sacrilegious, for me to have bought something like Mickies stunner. I was also lucky that I wanted black, and am happy without too many extras (AMGs are well specced anyway for my needs) two things that devalue these cars it seems.

And your point about this forum is bang on... provided it doesn’t fuel people’s obsessive nature too much !!
