C63 507 Model Register

I'll be brief at the moment as I am still getting used to the way the car behaves and as it is a weekend toy that is taking an enjoyable while :)

Immediately after having the Quaife fitted I got to drive along some nice twisty country roads and through some small and medium sized roundabouts. The car felt more planted in general driving and when I squeezed the throttle out of some of the tighter corners I could feel the back end sit down slightly and the car just grip and move forwards with a little more purpose. A couple of times I asked the car for reasonably hard throttle (half way down in 2nd gear) coming out of the roundabouts and again it felt planted and drove me out of the turn along the line I wanted with no slip or wheel spin. The next day I was out with a friend and the road surface was slightly greasy after a couple of light rain showers. As I felt a little more confident I buried the throttle fully coming out of a medium sized roundabout (clear road and nothing coming towards us) and the car sat down, squirmed a bit when the traction control lights came one (for a split second, no more) and then bolted for the horizon with no wheel spin or issues at all. Currently the best £1,495 I've spent on a car but will write up more once I have driven the car a few more miles :)

Just be aware that if you do the last bit with traction control off it'll kick wide very quickly. It will be controllable but you might be used to wheel slip and a small wiggle instead. Sport TC is a good halfway house to start feeling what the car is really doing without electronic shackles as it still catches things quite early.

That is something that was explained to me by the installers. I am very proud to admit I am not a driving god and will never be taking any safety to the "fully switched off" setting :thumb:

Hi all,

I am new on this site but was inspired to join by the meeting of fellow 507 edition owners. I’ve had mine a few months - a 2014 white coupe with low mileage and reasonable spec, although sadly no LSD.

Not sure if my car is already on your list Phil, Reg plate ends in YF.

Welcome to the forum and to 507 ownership. That's a nicely specced, very low mileage car you've found yourself.

Very easy to get an LSD fitted, either Quaife or Wavetrac. @Yex has just had a Quaife fitted recently.

MSL (forum sponsors) are doing an offer on the Quaife at the moment.

If you know any other 507 owners then please ask them to get in touch with their details, either here or via Facebook @philip Hurst.

Thankyou Phil, I’m certainly considering purchasing an LSD at some point in the future and was interested to read Yex’s post on the subject. Unfortunately, I’ve got a B service, 4 new tyres and a new decal kit (£600) to pay for first.

You mention 2 LSD’s above, is there any consensus on which is superior?

As a side note, if anyone scratches/damages over the decal like I stupidly did and needs part of the decal set I will have all parts available for sale soon except the drivers side door.

I hope you're not paying £600 just for the decals? You can get a copy for £25 that looks exactly the same...

Wavetrac and Quaife work on the same principal and neither are true LSDs. They are Automatic Torque Biasing differentials. The difference is the Wavetrac has a couple of extra features. One that ensures consistent friction over the longer term and another which creates some friction in a zero load scenario. In practice I've had both (albeit the Quaife was on a Z4) and I find the Wavetrac to be slightly better at transferring torque across the axle and I think I get even better traction than the Quaife.

You'd be happy with either but I'd recommend Wavetrac. The official UK supplier is Regal Autosport in Southampton which is where mine was fitted. £1,600 to drive in, drive out with a caveat that they may need the car for more than a day if they have to get shims manufactured. I was lucky and they could reuse my existing original shims.

Hi Steve, thanks for that information on the LSD, that’s an helpful comparison and I’ll bear it in mind when I look to get one fitted.

Yes, I am considering £600 for the decal kit, it is very expensive and a bitter pill to swallow to repair a fairly small scratch. I am aware of the aftermarket ones on eBay etc but have a couple of concerns about these. First, worries that they will be not quite be an exact match to the OEM (I have previously been told they are a 95% match) and second that they may fade and/or peel with time. Both of these concerns may be unjustified but it is difficult to find impartial information about them.

I don’t want to detract from the original threat topic so I’ll make a new thread and hopefully yourself and others have good advice to offer on the subject.

As @Steve84N says, you wouldn’t be disappointed with either. Quaife is the more popular in the UK but that’s not to say it’s the better. Even speaking to Acid at MSL was inconclusive as to which one I should fit.

I’ve responded regarding the decals in your other thread. Let me know if you find out what colour Matt Graphite Grey is. I’ve seen mentioned on the US forum that it may be Avery 759-01 Komatsu Grey.

Quaife is more popular as it's more widely available.

Olly at PCS Horndean was interested to know how I found the Wavetrac once he learned I was going elsewhere the day after a remap at PCS to get the differential. It seemed like he might be considering offering them.

Hi Phil
Who built your 507 engine?
Mines f de guissepe ? If spelt correctly

Anyone else notice this laquer peel on there red calipers? My N/s front unfortunately has this and have raised it with my local dealer, to see if they can do anything.

Mine's done the same on the opposite caliper. I assume it'll need repainting...

Assuming it’s a common issue? I’ve done a google search and a few people have experienced this. By the looks you get a can of clear coat and a few coats will sort out rather paint the whole caliper? It’s just top clear coating what seems to be the problem

It happens where you get a small stone chip in the lacquer and water gets underneath. I’ve resprayed one of mine with VHT lacquer and it looks like new.
