As I have only had this old girl for a week or two its only been filled twice.

The only problem is its been doing a mixture of 1-2 mile school runs and a fair bit of motorway stuff but only seems to be returning about 20 mpg:eek:

Now I know its a 300 24v but I thought with the amount of motorway stuff I'd at least get 25-28'ish?

I know it needs a service and its getting the works next week but Id be interested to hear what other 300 owners are getting.

p.s. is there a massive difference in mpg with a regular 300te?

Cheers all

Paul

the 300TE was never very economical either :)

the later engines fare slightly better but the little short school runs will cost you dearly especially if you are a bit heavy on the throttle.

Whatever car I've owned I never class the first few weeks as indicative of the real fuel consumption that I am going to get once I wipe that childish grin off my face and realise that the accelerator can do so much more than off and on :D

Mid to high 20's would be my guess for your car

Andy

I can't say I notice any difference in consumption against the 12V one I had before , low to mid 20s being about the norm .

TBH I don't bother to work it out but a worst of about 280 miles to a tankful against about 350 at best , depending on my style of driving .

Swap you for my 260E :D I get 19 to the gallon out of that

(Must remember to book it in for a service and a good going over, may make it more economical)

Lord Walker Sir,

I know it's any direct use, but no harm in posting it for reference ....

I've got 25.09 mpg, over 23,937 miles - half motorway half a/b roads.

Or in old money - 11.26 litres per 100KMs.

I spose its not as bad as my Evo, that goes down to single figures when you use the lead foot:eek:

the 300 and 300-24 were never really known for their fantastic fuel economy. The 280/320 are better for that. The 1-2 mile school run will kill your average mpg anyway. Try a tank full but with little short journeys.

...BMW 320D....48 MPG...AHHHHHHHH !!! Ya dont pick a big engined motor for the economy ! MPG was one of the little niggles that I hated on my old coupe. I am a fuel minge bag and would be the same if I was a billionaire ! ....Why not convert to gas ??

I hear that the 124works is quite good and reasonably cost effective. :D

(blatant plug, sorry all)

my 300e-24 gets about 350 miles from a tank, same as my old 260E. My 300D on the other hand gets 500+ !

I don't think I've ever got to that stage with any of my Mercs - even ones I've owned for years :D

Thanks all for your replies.

It seems I'll have to wait until its had a good service, and reserve judgement on the mpg.

Its averaging around 16 in town:eek:

I looked at the air filter and it was filthy, so the old girls gagging for some tlc.

Ill let you know how I get on...
