I was prompted to post on this phenomenon again by an item on yesterdays news and by another post on insurance costs. This was covered on video on the BBC some time ago. http://search.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/sea...ar+crash&x=0&y=0&scope=all&tab=all&recipe=all
see video entitled car crash fraudsters.
Seems foreign organised crime has targeted the insurance companies as a rich source of cash for other illict activities such as gun and people trafficing! The insurance companies are finally starting to make noises but one gets the impression that initially their standard response was simply to pass this extra cost on to their customers. However at a cost of £30,000 per accident they couldnt sustain that!

These organised gangs specialise in causing "accidents" and then claim for large amounts for personal injuries.
So be wary if you spot a cheap looking older car being driven in a strange or erractic manner close to you. Check you can see its brake lights coming on, they are often disconnected. Be wary if its full of people also.:(
There may be more than one car involved, one is the "victim" vehicle the other the "spoiler" whose purpose is to create a situation where a collision with the first "victim"vehicle is inevitable.
These gangs often target women with children or older drivers who they then intimidate for their insurance details.  If you are involved in such an incident where your suspicions are aroused insist on calling the police and if you can get an independant witness fine. Dont take the first " volunteer witness " because they may also be a "plant" who just happened to be passing.

Dont want people to panic but forwarned is forarmed!;)

edit:- link works now sorry about that.
