central locking vacuum unit (aka PSE) for a 1999 SLK

Hi guys,

I had tried the hair-dryer approach, getting the PCB properly cleaned, etc., but this was a serious case of corrosion. No easy fix.

I got one from the dealer in the end - no success with second-hand MB parts suppliers or ebay. I had others like my friend above who claimed to have one for sale but either didn't or refused to to messages. (Hence my annoyance.)

But I have one bit of useful info to add -

Parts 170 800 08 48 or 170 800 06 48 are direct replacements for 170 800 05 48 - just plug-in and go.

Ciao.

ARE YOU THICK OR WHAT!!!
Melcolm offered to help, pay for postage! not even a reply to him THIS site would be lost with out his help

No need for that kind of outburst Mr McNally. Take a few deep breaths.

Malcolm's offer was very kind. but I wasn't inclined to put my part in the post abroad til I had exhausted all other options. (Belated thanks Malcolm, and if you're still interested in the part I can forward it.)

I agree I could have let him know directly, but I was waiting (as everyone could see) on a previous offer to sell me a replacement part, so I put the blame on this time waster.

Just on a happy note , I will refund the postage should you care to post it.

It would only be used as a helping guide to the forum
