Costco Premium Diesel vs Shell V Power Diesel Octane

Hello,

Just been researching into the difference between Costco premium diesel and Shell v power diesel, cant seem to find the cetane for Shell. Costco claim theirs is 99 for the diesel. Does anyone have an idea?

I wonder if Costco premium diesel is better than standard BP diesel and shell standard diesel?

Your 'research' should have revealed that:
Diesel has a cetane rating.
Petrol has an octane rating. Shell V-Power petrol is 99 RON

I seriously doubt Costco diesel has a cetane number of 99. I think you have quoted the petrol octane rating

Cetane numbers - (from another car forum)

Guaranteed minimum figures:-
Standard BS EN590: 51
Shell Diesel Extra: 53
Total Excellium: 53
BP Ultimate Diesel: 55
Shell V-Power Diesel: 55
BP Ultimate has been known to have a higher figure than 55, but AFAIK anything above 55 is pointless.

For diesel, the additive package will most likely be the key differentiator. I use regular diesel most of the time and usually prefer to go with Shell.

As to which is better... better for what?

I've not (knowingly) done a direct comparison with fuels that included Costco. However if their base fuel meets EN:590 and they have a good additive package then I'm sure it's fit for purpose. Also if their forecourt is convenient for you and you have a Costco card then their pricing is likely to be attractive.

Yes indeed my bad I misread, doesnt state the figure. I hope Costco premium diesel is decent. Someone said its equivalent to v power diesel

Yeah sorry was just trying to compare the ratings with BP standard and shell standard. As long as it's on par or better rated. Costco fuel is 1.2 mile away. BP 1 mile
