Don't know if you guys will be interested...

This is the sort of car that all Barry Boys aspire too - therefore it encompasses everything that is Barry. It is a job well done but the car is still a chav's dream Ford.

I must say that is one amazing car and all credit to the owner.

Some of the comments on here do make me wince though. I owned one of these cars and still miss it now. They are a classic and in no way shape or form is that car Barry. Those of you calling it Barry clearly do not know the meaning of the term.

The original 3 door has more sporting heritage than most Mercedes models can dream of. It was a first in many ways and although there are a few parts of that particular car I personally don't 100% approve of it is still an amazing car.

I personnaly hate the word "Barry" this is the only forum ive ever seen it used, never hear people in anywhere including london using that word! only certain people on this forum!

Well, im not a chav or a Barry (whatever they are!), and I think its a great car!

Nothing wrong with a Sierra Cosworth. A real performance car with rock solid motorsport credentials, not to mention its (in)famous reputation as a car for making a quick getaway following some criminal activities.

I don't want one, but criticising a Sierra Cosworth for being a Ford is like criticising a computer for having buttons.

Amazing restoration job, and a credit to its owner.

They are "Barry" to the highest degree! Anything with a huge pointless spoiler, wheel arch extensions, bonnet vents, big-bore exhaust and a "405bhp" sticker on the front wings is Barry, no exceptions. Before anyone says anything, the Mercedes 190e Evo model with massive wing etc is also Barry (and also race-derived).

Mercedes sporting heritage vs Ford sporting heritage? ;)

One of my rants:

I'm personally fed up of all this "chav" and "barry" rubbish. I too do not hear the word "barry" elsewhere. It's a Sierra Cosworth and is absolutely beautiful and totally 1980s. I love it and I love Sierra.

The enD.

For a while I have been concerned about this and also the tendancy for certain members to be very vocal and opinionated about others' modifications and cars. To the point that it seems downright rude, although I am sure that this is not their intention.

All the more ironic when one considers "their" cars and dubious mods.

I know I run the risk of a proper flaming now, but I figure if others can speak their mind then so can I.

I'm probably risking any little standing I have on this great forum. But sometimes guys you need to step away from the keyboard and say nothing - especially if its not constructive.

I would add that this is NOT aimed at any of the people that have posted on this particular thread - Just a sentiment that relates to any threads where people express their opinion. Whether its about a car, a mod, or whatever. Sometimes the less said the better, as new members of the forum, or visitors, could perhaps feel less inclined to raise their head above the parapet, and so just watch from the sidelines.

Like Wallingd, rant over.

But I fear I have not heard the last.

Dons fireproof vest and retreats.

that's what mercedes need after 5 years, a good bare metal respray.

I've always loved the RS 3 doors and this is just immaculate

Hi Tilly,
I am a nosey critta and am wondering what the owner of that car intends doing now that he is selling the Sierra? Is there another project on the way and ishe a dyed in the wool Ford man?

One of my first cars was the MkII 1600GT Cortina and I still remember that excellent gearbox.

So what you are saying is that only people that agree with the nature of the thread should reply?

i like it - its Barry, but so what. I want an old Porsche 944 to fling about - I'm now a yuppie. Oh dear.

Still, back to our old man/Grandad cars eh, Gentlemen? (those who are Grandads can be excused from this little dig!)

All cars have a sterotype - unless they are just plain boring. Ahem VW Passat, ahem.

Said in jest as ever :D

That would have been the point I would have made, if I'd got here 15 minutes earlier.

I guess what Marc means is that there's a difference between expressing an opinion (albeit a negative one) and making generalised character assasinations.

You can tell someone you think his car's crap, but you can't assume he's an idiot because he likes it :D

My Dad used to judge Aston Martin Owners Club concours, and I've been to a fair few and appreciate the effort that goes into preparing the cars, etc.

But I have to say that the effort on this Sierra is a little too close to the obsessional for my liking ...

It must be something to do with my age, anytime I post anything on this forum it always turns into the next world war at a few million posts long. I don't see a problem with people not liking it. I just don't like people stereotyping the car as "Barry"

If this is barry... whats an AMG? four exhausts... bodykit, big alloys, is any of this needed any less than the parts on the sierra? give me a break its a f*cking joke to be quite honest. As explained the different aspects of the sierra that're present are purposeful.

The bonnet vents: reduces underbonnet temperatures, and makes a hell of difference on a 2.0 four cylinder lump engineered to such a high standard its putting out more than most mercs.

The "big bore" exhaust: why is it big bore? isn't that obvious? its a turbo, it helps gas flow, a necessity on a 400bhp 4 cylinder motor, to put that kind of power out the exhaust gases need to be removed quickly and efficiently.

The spoiler: as mentioned used for downforce and also for rules and regulations of rallies, ie. as the car was intended. A drivers car, not refined with all the gadgets of the day to weigh it down an unecessary 2 ton

The wide arches are to accomodate the wider track width needed to control the amount of power to the rear wheels, remember its an E reg, none of this ESP stuff.

Any other things you'd like to deem problematic? I always though race derived cars would fall into true motorsporting enthusiast categories but it seems unless its a box on wheels with command and heated seats that its barry, ah well... sh*t happens eh?

lol!!! to be honest i think its beyond obsessional but that only makes me admire it more for his work, and its not a trailer pimp, it does get used and to great avail, a true weapon

Sounds like a fair point to me.

The difference is subtlety, the AMGs have it and the Sierra Cosworth doesn't. Like it or not the Cossie has an "image", no-one can deny that.

the cossies certainly have an image - but i dont think many of the new amgs are particularly subtle. Classy yes, subtle no......hoe subtle can 500 brake be for petes sake!!!!!

saw an slk55 the other day and my first thoughts were how mean and aggressive it looked...not subtle at all!

Subtlety has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with appearances.

You're right though, the SLK55 AMG has vents in the front bumper which look a bit silly, allegedly for brake-cooling. Otherwise it looks mostly like a standard SLK.

Rip the spoiler and wheel arches off, put some steels on, lose the exhaust pipe and paint one of the body panels with primer and suddenly the cosworth is subtle (see earlier pics in this thread ;) )

ferraris, lambos, porsches etc are barry then?
