Don't know if you guys will be interested...

Perhaps these threads should just be kept on topic about the original post instead of dergrading into this chav / barry crap!

I could rant on about some coments but I wont. It is an awesome car and a motoring classic.

Id somewhat agree with tilly on this one,

My definition of so called "Barry" mobiles (still dont like that word) are "Done up wanna be`s", not the class originals. Bit like a:-
- C180 with an AMG badge on.
- sierras with cosworth replica kits.
-316i`s with M3 kits
- fiesta 1.1 with RS turbo kits
i could go on!

But not originals, like REAL cosworths or REAL AMG`s.

nuff said! RANT over

a home is to be lived in, a car to be driven...

We do tend to stereo type both folks and their vehicles. A number of members are of the opiniion this Cosworth is not used, yet here is a picture that would dispute that allegation. Evidently this was taken on the way to a show that the owner actually acheived yet another first!!

I very much doubt if the owner is your typical stereo blaring neon light flashing 'Barry Boy'? We have all seen the pictures of both the interior.... NO ear drum splitting hi-fi system, plus we have seen the underside? No neon lights flashing or otherwise.

I am grateful for the link, but feel sad the person that posted it was so sensitive, although I can to a degree understand why he was so defensive. The owner of the Cosworth is a very highly regarded member of that forum and I would like to think we would defend anyone on this forum with a similar passion????

Top marks to him for posting the link and hopefully just like Arnie....

He'll be back

Not to sure what the passenger is doing with his left hand, but evidently they were comparing 'notes' with a BMW M3

aaaaaaaaaaargh - a friend of mine had a Sierra 3 door that had been "modded" with a dining table stuck on the back window, only trouble was it was a yucky brown colour. It was truly vile but he thought it was the dogs squidgy bits:crazy: But then he still sported a Kevin Keegan perm and thought he was gods gift - which he was most certainly not!!

A pleasure to see any car that has had that amount of effort and TLC spent on it. If it is used for real as well, even better.

But I must say that the inside shots bought back memories of many motorway miles thrashed out of a white Sierra I once had as a company car. A much more humble vehicle but it shared pretty much the same interior.

Ah yes, memories. No AC, minimal ICE apart from the transmission whine, grey plastic, grey cloth seats, grey plastic, comedy sunroof, bit more grey plastic............

No offence taken at all - and no I didn't marry him:D :D N has never admitted to a KK perm - just as well - I'd divorce him if he did:D :D

I was never a fan of the Sierra in any of its guises and in my opinion the RS whale tail was comical.

The renovation of this car is far too 'clinical' and 'sterile' for my taste.

I must say though, that I have the utmost admiration and respect for the quality of workmanship, attention to detail and overall appearance of this car, it is an outstanding achievement. The owner is worthy of all the praise that his forum colleagues have given him.

The type of restoration I prefer to see is the dedicated "working" type as typified by KLP's SEC, this too is an outstanding car but in a different sense. The owners of both cars are obviously very proud of their achievements, and deservedly so.

Not sure if its to anyones liking on here but ever since I was young I've grown up working on, restoring and modifying cars at weekends and nights but I came across this and I'm just stunned as to how immaculate it is. To own a car like this would be a dream come true for me and yes... its a ford :P I've always loved the RS 3 doors and this is just immaculate

Wow, that's a rebuild and a half! Can't fault the work put into the car, or the chosen specification for the engine and chassis. Interesting link - thanks.

While I agree with others that old Sierras are still old Sierras, the RS cars were really something else, and their values in today's market show that their cachet is still prevalent; something which determines the residual values of all secondhand cars. What something is "worth" secondhand is dependant on what people will pay for it, hence the reason why 10-15 year-old RS Escorts and Sierras can regularly fetch five-figure sums.

I had a 1991 RS Cosworth 4x4 (as a company car) when I was in the motor trade and while it lacked a little in terms of aesthetics, character and build quality, it was a superb, very fast car to drive and very comfortable too. Similarly the old (Mk2) RS Escorts were basic devices with little visual charm, but dynamically they were brilliant. In fact, most of the old RWD fast Fords were blessed with great engines, high power-to-weight ratios and balls-out dynamics. I can't recall anything else (in the same price bracket) in the 80s and early 90s which offered anything close to the same driving experience.

Even now, Ford are coming back to the fore with some excellent fast cars. Has anyone driven a new Focus ST yet..? I kid you not, it's a superb little car and one which very much captures the essence of the traditional fast Ford. I'll shut up now...

I have been laughing quietly to myself whilst reading through this thread at some of the comments of 'Barry' levelled at this car.

It is NOT Barry. It is a car with a genuine sporting heritage that needs all it's add ons over a cooking Sierra to do the job for which it was designed.

If you want to see Barry head over to www.barryboys.co.uk and see what Barry really means. But be aware they use bad language and some of the cars posted on there will turn your stomach.

When I had mine I will never forget a middleaged bloke in his Merc 190 Cosworth (complete with masses of sporting heritage  ) pulling alongside me at a set of lights. He sat there looking at me and revving his Merc. The lights changed and he nailed it. I set off reasonably quickly, looked over at him, waved and left him for dead.

Think the new Focus is doing pretty well for itself in the rallying world.

Just to clear up the reason why I'm going because I knew people would say I was being OTT.

Please excuse me if this is seen to be harsh or ****y but its how I feel at the moment....

It is not just this topic, its not the first time its happened in a thread I've started where I just get pathetic snide comments which yes I do take to heart when people stereotype me, not so much in this thread as its not my car. Whereas in this thread rather than just "sorry, not my cuppa" he gets all the sh*t of the day for an immaculate, pristine condition race/rally bred car in new condition with uprated chassis and engine components to top it off. I'm sure we could chew f*cking holes through the mercs and their problems. The fords might be a case of Fix Or Repair daily but at least you dont have to pay four times as much for your car to f*ck up just as often but to greater avail and more expense.

I had offhand comments when I simply asked for a few pictures of alloys on a black w203, nothing more, nothing less and got snide comments about "whens the barry exhaust coming" and "does the headunit have to come out straight away" and its f*cking pathetic, I can't fit aftermarket alloys yet its fine for people to upgrade from the standard wheels to AMG wheels because they've got a pretty three letter logo stamped on the side, whoopee do! for anyone who still wants to chat. You'll find me knocking around on www.evotechnik.net/forum/ with a bunch of like minded people, who respect all types of modifications, race orientated, styling, ICE, retrofit OEM mods. Frequently have track days and other meets and like to try something different with their cars that makes them unique, for example Lee's BMW 330Ci with an ASA supercharger, M3 killer, is that Barry? if so why doesnt everyone drive round in C180's, whats the need for anything above that? I just don't like to see people victimised whether its myself or others. It has happened a lot in my short time being here so I hope people can appreciate my reasons and if in doubt, please look at my previous threads.

Regards,
Mark

It's a shame you can't stay, but you'll find the world a very hard place if a few comments on a website bother you.

You're looking at it the wrong way... I find the world perfectly fine but when I have the choice of two online communities, one that welcomes me and one I don't feel comfortable with. Its hardly something I have to put up with, if I don't like the attitudes shown towards me, I will simply go elsewhere as I'm sure other people in your position would, I was merely letting people know my reasons rather than just disappearing and people speculating as to reasons why, I have made some good friends on here and wish to stay in touch. Many of you who have been very welcoming, some of which even PM'd me their support and views but I am more likely to spend my time on a forum where people respect my choices albeit they might not agree with them but they take a more strategic approach in saying that with no comments relating to my age or the type of person I am. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread how it is hard for a 17 year old to be a motoring enthusiast with their own car as they're in fiestas or what have you but... I'm only 18 myself, started driving last year with a '97 P reg escort Si 1.8 that was chipped, lowered, de-catted, full system exhaust, a sealed forced induction and uprated 300mm front discs. is that barry? taking a standard 113bhp car to 132bhp on the rollers from an N/A. Yes its only 19bhp but to me, its better than nothing and quite easily keeps up with merc 200k's. My second car was an '03 plate 318Ci SE coupe and now my C class, I am proud to say I am where I am through no help from anyone else, its all paid for off my own back and for me it is a big thing as I'm not from the city so salary's are nowhere near many of you guys, but I've managed it, I still own the escort and although worth very little is still an asset which will allow me to pull a bit of money back to fund the remaining parts of my project car off road which is a late shape escort RS2000 4x4, only three were hundred made 4wd in the last shape so they are rare, its being fitted with a 2.3 ford galaxy bottom end as they use the same I4 engine and only require a few minor mods to fit, GSXR 1000 bike throttle bodies, aftermarket management and wild cams to allow me to take the limiter to 7750RPM at the peak of the engines powerband and albeit a ford, its 4wd so great handling, plenty of torque for a car of that weight and plenty of power from the throttle bodies, although not to the standard of some of your cars, at the same time it'll cost me approx. 5k and will make a great track car regardless of who its made by and to me, thats an achievement of its own. See you all at the Nordschleife in the near future ;)

So, Tillys' gone?. I think thats a shame. I can relate to him and his enthusiasm, passion, and eye for something different. That was me thirty years ago.

Gets all misty eyed.
