This MUST be said in Gok Wons fashion accent.........

'I know it last years must have but she look fierce girlfriend' LOL:D

all im gonna say is... 60k (157k total) and no gearbox issues.. no bearings going... not even a noisy fan belt... bmw = Fail.

Why would a clutch release bearing be noisy only on the over-run and without the clutch pedal being depressed?

Soooooo,

My Merce....my BM..........my car,, went into the garage today and they have put the whine down to the an iffy alternator??

Given my description at the start, does this sound right??? (its the car sales own garage so they could be mudding the water a little)

Advice would be appreciated again:D

Good idea to get a new alternator under warranty. Of course if they haven't fixed the real problem, just go back again!

Does the clutch pedal feel 'funny' when stationary? with foot on clutch?

I had a 330ci manual and the cltch release bearing was on its way but you could 'feel' something not right when your foot was on the clutch.

As it happends the gold cover RAC warranty from Fords of Windford didn't cover this :(

Not sure, I suppose engine over-run could alter the dynamics of the alternator belt. Have you tried sitting in the car with the engine idling and switching on some stuff to load up the alternator? You could then try holding the revs at different speeds and then releasing the throttle pedal to see if you can create the noise. :dk:

Cheers chaps,

The clutch pedal felt fine and the motor is with them now to sort it, good news is I could get a new alternator if they not found the right fault, just seems odd as it 'felt' like a transmission whine?

Sick car Update:

With them having changed the altenator it was found the noise was a due to duff diff............all due respect to Clearwater Autos in Chelmsford, no quibble at all just booked it in and the repairs start tomorrow.

Lets see how it goes from there:)
