Dyno Day SSR

interested to see how she did Jules, mine was similar, hour and a half drive , then straight on!

Jerry is sorting my map out now, so I am ready for another run on Sun with another rolling road, will be interested to see your results.

With the revised map I reckon under the same conditions you might get another 5-10bhp at the upper end. Better cooling and winter temperatures would see you top 600. If you change dyno you'll lose your base starting point.

Not ideal as in car on way home, so quick iPhone pic whilst at the services

Yes it was a pity, you guys had already booked yesterday and I had a meeting booked in London for today. I kept quiet as wasn't sure I'd make it there in time but did just. So managed to get straight on (not ideal for heat soak) and did 4 runs with 3-4 mins in between.

To be honest Jules it all seemed a bit rushed at SRR yesterday morning anyway, so you didn't miss much other than it would have been good to have met up. I only got 2 runs with hardly any time between and would have liked a few more but there was a group of Impreza's waiting outside!

That is a almost a carbon copy but there are some differences

Billy's hit 600 lb torque at 2300rpm whereas Jules is at 2500 rpm
Billys torque drops to 600 again at 4000rpm whereas Jules is at 4100rpm

Looking at hp Billys is approx 20 more at 2500 rpm but by 3500rpm they are identical.

Jules seems to have at least 10 hp more between 5000-5500 but then they get to within 3hp by the end.

Those are both very good graphs! :thumb:

Hopefully Jules got AFR's as well.

Great results Jules...interesting both you and Alps are showing circa +5% increase on my results even though we had the same mods...both dyno dynamics but at different locations, i think your dead right about how set up has an affect.

I am really looking forward to Jerrys next visit, be really great to get the cars with the same mods, same dyno, same set up...so we can compare variation car to car.

Cheers
David.

Agree mate, Jerry said the car must cool 15 mins before the 1st run, problem is me and Simon paid good money and had approx 20 mins, then we got asked to leave straight after, so actually had to sit and chat in the car park outside, so I won't be going back to SSR, and there are other dynos around that for me will give me what I expect and I don't expect much.

I have the new map from Jerry and will load tomorrow just making sure its ready for Sunday.

That's a shame Billy. Make sure you stay on a Dyno Dynamics though otherwise your results are meaningless.

Will post up my findings soon!

Why would it be meaningless :dk:

It's a dyno dynamics and they can record the following, I can do the rest on my laptop

BHP
Torque
MPH
AFR (Air Fuel Ratio)
Lambda
Boost
Acceleration

Billy, where you getting the dyno done?

Jules, good figures there mate.

Thought I'd overlay the graphs to see if there are any obvious traits etc, see below;

It is clear that DSB's graph doesn't quite correlate to the others done at SRR, then neither does Alps's graph which was done there, just seems to lack low down compared to the others but is right there at the end, it's got to be down to the way it was dyno'd. As we know DSB's was done in a different gear so hard to compare directly.

On this one I have just left in the 3 recently done at SRR using the same set up. All 3 are very similar. Simon and Billy's making more low down torque, but mine catching up higher up the rev range, can only think this is due to breathing, mine is secondary de-cat and x-pipe versus Billy and I think Simon's as standard, not sure how much part back pressure plays but would indicate maybe why the figures are as they are, will also be many other factors......

Interesting one this. If 11.8 is the target then most are reasonably ok. I would say DSB's has the greatest scope to gain from a more optimised map, all have a little scope to tweak though, but no major gains..

Jules.

Another thing to note on DSB's graph is that the run was ended early with the power still rising, I am guessing that this is because it was going quite rich as per the AFR graph / readings....so another 500rpm would have seen it at 570+ bhp....

Jules.

interesting to see all the comparisons Jules, thanks for that.

be interesting to see how Jerrys tweaking has effected the results, just need to find time to visit charlie to get a re-run.

Thanks for all this Jules.

That's one thing I noticed on my graphs, they end sooner than the others at SRR. Not sure why that is, I assume with the maps we have the rev limits would all have been lifted a little and cut off at same point but....

I know its stupid but I now feel a little under gunned as you all seem to have better results with similar mods other than my exhaust is standard.

Hi Simon, not sure on yours mate, I think get the cable from Jerry, do some data logging and see whats what, its the only real way of seeing whats going on, I would do the spark plugs for sure, and the drive belt, dont know if you know anyone that can machine down our old pulleys, as I would be intrested in putting my stock one back on with a new bearing.

De cat.....

Do you think that would make the difference then Olly? My graphs seem to not only end sooner but are tailing off quicker at the top end than the others.

I know Billy's exhaust is standard but then his motor just seems bit special, I think Jules, Alps and DSB all have some form of exhaust mods although I think Alps only has C63 rear boxes.
