Dyno Day SSR

Hi Simon, not sure on yours mate, I think get the cable from Jerry, do some data logging and see whats what, its the only real way of seeing whats going on, I would do the spark plugs for sure, and the drive belt, dont know if you know anyone that can machine down our old pulleys, as I would be intrested in putting my stock one back on with a new bearing.

Cheers Billy - I have just emailed Jerry so a cable is on the way and I can do some logging. I just went to order the v belt on amazon but was ending up over £60 inc shipping so cancelled it. Think the original seller you got yours from is now out of stock. That will teach me for not acting sooner!

Dont go for the express shipping choose the alternative its about £6 and will bring the cost right down, the seller for mine was actually amazon

I went for standard shipping which says 10-20 days and cost was £38 for shipping alone. When I looked again the amazon supplied ones are out of stock, this one was coming from 'Midway Auto Supply', which is why cost is different so cancelled it.

Okay I see, see if Jerry can stick one in the box when he ships your cable, and send him the payment

Simon, you can always order the Continental Belt, it is stocked at motor factors in GB and I think cost less than £20, size wise it is bang in the middle of the standard and Gates belt.

Jules.

Hi Simon, yes you are correct, just back boxes changed and a pair of K&N`s.

re the belt, I have been doing a bit of digging around, Gates in the uk have a 8pk1275es, which is the same as the greenback belts apparently, ive ordered one to see what its like, but it will be the same length as Jules conti.

interesting to see all the comparisons Jules, thanks for that.

be interesting to see how Jerrys tweaking has effected the results, just need to find time to visit charlie to get a re-run.

It will be yes, I think you will see some improvement but be sure to ask Charlie to run it in exactly the same set-up as he did for me, Billy and Simon, whilst most things look the same it is odd that your readings pick up a lot later, got to be the dyno. Top end is within 2% which at 580bhp is unnoticeable.

Jules.

Hi Alps when I looked into this, this is the part number that gates technical gave me and said it was the UK Equivalent 8PK1255, I was in no rush and wanted the Green one so went for the USA one, but 8PK1255 is meant to be exactly the same, apart from the green back.

Do you think that would make the difference then Olly? My graphs seem to not only end sooner but are tailing off quicker at the top end than the others.

I know Billy's exhaust is standard but then his motor just seems bit special, I think Jules, Alps and DSB all have some form of exhaust mods although I think Alps only has C63 rear boxes.

Every single 55k engine is different. They all seem to have varying power outputs.

We do a standard 55 that is very quick indeed. It flys.

Do not be too hung up on what the dyno says. It the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile that is important.

I expect an exhaust mod will help. How much by? I am not sure until its done.

Nice one Billy, i will give the 1275 a go as its already smaller than the stock belt and its en route :)

Simon, it may be worth you ordering a 1255 version, just a tad over £21 on ebay, so it wont break the bank!

Guys remember when asking Jerry to adjust your map its important to also understand what is causing the ECU to adjust what is already been commanded. If high IAT's are causing fuel dump and timing change then you are still going to see the same effect. Solve the cause not the effect.

Be careful, I'd be surprised if a 1275 and 1255 are the same. Conti do a 1255 but I was reluctant to go that small just in case it was too tight, making it difficult to get on and maybe run the risk of tearing. Stick with a 1260 or above to be safe and save hassle, if we are running 1260 and 1275 size with no issues then these are the one's to go for.

Jules.

Wise words Obi Wan......;)

To be honest my motor really shifts now, and seems much better since you fitted the ic pump. I just wondered why my graphs seemed to drop off quickly at the top end.

I think on mine it's just running a bit rich, each power run the power was increasing, Jerry has never seen this map with pulley since he done it for me, as we had no dyno figures, I know what persons are trying to say about dynos, but the main point is without them we would be guessing, and guessing for me is not an option, I then looked back at all my IATs and can't find one above 62c and this was on a hot day and several runs, I asked Jerry if he wanted to adjust now or after my other dyno session, and he said adjust, so I will log on the way to the dyno, log when it's on the dyno and see what's what, if Jerry says all is well I will leave it at that, if he needs to make further adjustments then that's fine with me.

Tuning a car without putting it on a dyno IMO is playing with fire, taking it down the road and saying its quick, does not cut it for me I am afraid.

Can this not just happen Paul by altering / fitting mods, if Jerry does not have a Datum position, can't see how he can get it correct every time on every car, some cars with mods run lean some run rich, just a bit of fine tuning I think is all we are trying to achieve.

Of course. Setting up must be on a dyno. Everytime.

Thats not what I ment at all. Making sure the tune is safe is paramount. How quick it is comes down to a 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Alps - I think I will probably go with the 1275 version. I have noticed a small amount of black dust near the pulley so maybe my belt is slipping a little. I guess the best thing would be to do a simple calculation but I don't have my original pulley to hand, can someone confirm the difference in diameter between them?

You are probably right
When was the 62c hit on a dyno or on the road?

On the road Paul, never recorded on the dyno, wish I did mate, but I will see a clear picture on the next run, it's annoying as I had the laptop in the car at the time.
