First problem with C63

Oh yeah...this great service I'm reading about makes me feel really good about buying my 3rd AMG in a row.

My dyslexic eyes were playing ticks on me again. Because of the bad press Mercedes bring upon themselves I thought you had bought your 3rd AMG in a row (as in having a row not in a row of ducks)

I shoud have gone to specsavers.

Jet wash - HA HA

I've waited for countless minutes whilst my car is "just being washed."

Man with bucket and sponge?

Of course it was.

Just noticed my left hand pipes are wonky :-(

Rhs are level but the lhs, the inner one is noticeably higher. Looks shyate.

Anyone know if it is just a screw on tailpipe or is it welded to the exhaust?

wonky number plates has been my problem !

they are wonky because AMG's are 'hand built' :)

Concerned about the use of double sided tape/pads to hold a spoiler on?

Well, very strongly suggest you do not ever look at the 3M Aerospace Solutions website, in particular the Aircraft Structure Solutions products.

There is absolutely no reason, other than duff workmanship or use of a badly specced product, why use of adhesive film/tape/pads should be a problem in that application.

Wonky number plates and rear window stickers do my head it - I removed the rear window sticker before the car even left the showroom but I only noticed the exhaust whilst walking back to it today.

As you said, both the inner ones are slightly higher and protrude a little bit more but the left one is way, way higher. Once the frost clears tomorrow I will get a photo up so show my disgust!

Here is the offending pipe...left hand side. It all seems to be welded to I think I will leave it to the dealer to fix, whether by brute force or any other means.

PS Sorry for slightly hijacking the thread!

Hi Simon, see what you mean with the exhaust, hope you get it sorted, wonky number plates are also my pet hate,3 years ago picked up a new Ferrari from stratstones in manchester and the front number plate was probably 10mm difference accross ,i kid you not ,Idiots:eek:

I can tell you mine are not perfect, but the difference between left and right is the amount of space between the diffuser and exhaust. The left has slighter more space than the right - I only noticed when I was polishing the exhaust ;-)

They're all like this - both my C63's have been identical in this manner. Its due to the exhaust coming out from the rear 'straight' (unless your car belongs to SimonM...that one does look wonky) and the diffuser is curved. The main thing is that both sides are the same with the gap on the inner exhausts being closer to the diffuser than the outer exhausts.

Simon - it'll be interesting to see what your dealer does about that...keep us updated. The BMW 335i I had a few years ago (the one with the wheelbarrow-type dual exhaust) was similarly uneven.

On the subject of the bootlid spoiler, I agree with what Alps and Palmball said....

If you can fix it yourself, do it.

The other option is taking it to a dealers, where you will get pi$$ed about while they compile a report etc.. and then you'll have some plum who gets the job of sorting out your spoiler.. who probably couldn't give a rats ass about it and won't put in as much time and care as you would if you did it yourself!

Some may disagree, but it's true... no one will care about your sh#t more than you!

On the subject of the tailpipes...

I don't think I have ever seen a set of tailpipes that are completly symetrical.

In most cases, they are in line, but one set of tailpipes usually sit out more than the other side.

Also, when the engine is under load, there are twisting forces at work, which in turn twist the exhaust system slightly, which is why you may have one set of tailpipes that sit lower than the other side.

:thumb:

My new exhaust expands when hot by about an inch and retracts when cooled off (as do BRABUS exhausts) while staying as originally aligned. Having said that, I spent an extra fitters' hour aligning the tail pipes back and force until fairly satisfied and the right hand side is still out by 2-3 mm!

heres mine-outer pipes slightly lower and more set back than inner ones

That is pathetic. I really feel for you.
Which plonker in AMG thought that it was acceptable to fix a spoiler in that manner to an AMG..
I have oft seen it posted that MB "personnel" read the forum for rapid feedback on their cars.
Well let’s hope they read this one and recall all AMGs for appropriate and professional fixes.
As my Dad would have said that is the "giddy limit"
I'm sure you will be having "a word"

I think that is unfair. Modern glues are so powerful that they are now often the favoured choice. Even big Boeings have many parts glued together. There are many amazing glues nowadays so that if you glue a piece of aluminium to another piece of the same, and try to pull them apart, the aluminium fails before the glue does.

Some yachts now even glue the deck to the hull and yet they survive arduous conditions.

Every now and again an operative may not do a job quite right -but it is not a design fault.

Human error then. Lets hope this error does not "stick" to the name of AMG.
