Fixed Penalty Points - How Long??

I received 3 penalty points for speeding (SP 30) on 3.3.06. How long is it until they are spent?

Being as it was over 3 years ago, is my license now clean again?

They remain for 4 years but don't count after 3 years.

Don't the insurance people ask you any Accidents or convictions in the past 5 years though....


I always thought the went off your licence after 3 but stay on file for 5?

That's awesome if they don't count after 3 years, but .... can anyone point me to that in writing, the DVLA site seems to imply that they count for 4 years.

Unfortunately, it stays on your licence for 4 years.
The 3 year aspect is as follows: "Any penalty points incurred are valid from a 3 year period from the date the conviction was given, but must stay on the licence for an additional twelve months, so a total of 4 years".

It's to do with the fine, the expiry of the points and fine are different, the points being three years but the fine has to be declared for either 4 or 5 years.

Something to do with the rehibilitation of offenders act. I'm sure someone in the law will clarify.

DVLA only keep records for 4 years. i called them personally after an insurance company wanted to know if there were any points in the last 5 years!
