Hi all, I have noticed that on the right side/centre of my bonnet; as I look through the windscreen, the shine isn't there it looks dull. How do I get it back please?

Whats the procedure for treating rust spots to stop them rusting through again?

Best regards Lee

Ps this is a mercedes 190 (87) carb white

Hi Lee,

I would assume that the paint has faded/oxidised slightly, and the best way to bring the shine back would be by polishing it.

You could use a cutting/compounding type polish such as the widely available 'T-Cut' or Farecla G3 or similar. Once the paint is shiny and smooth, apply a decent car wax/sealant to help protect the paint.

If you are not sure on the condition of the paint, try a small area first before tackling the whole bonnet.

Regarding the rust, it depends entirely on the type and severity of the problem. For small chips/blisters it may just be a case of removing the rust and treating the area with one of the many rust treatments available - have a look in a local motor factors :)

You can buy genuine MB paint 'touch-up' kits from your dealer.

Good Luck,

Will

Thried a few cutters like t-cut but doesn't seem to have worked, I'll respray the bonnet I think will be easier in the long run lol! but thanks for the reply, Will.
