Formula 1, Moto GP, WSB, 2021 Season

FIA.....'Fixing' it all.

This will rightly end up with the lawyers. - The rules are extremely clear!

In my eye's
Consider if LH had just been *denied* his first WDC today under these circumstances.

Now that would be very highly charged and political beyond the confines of the sport and the tabloids.
The same can be said for both driver's the colour of any driver doesn't matter in the same sense that the silogy before and after the race was done by a person of colour.the race will be a talking for many a time to come
Imo the decision will stand

Hamilton had the race won on lap 48 with even Horner admitting Verstappen had nothing more to offer. That the race director then engineered a situation that reversed that situation giving Verstappen an unearned opportunity to win is unacceptable.

Well consider if the incident and resulting Safety Car had been a lap or two earlier. Then LH stays out - but MV pits for fresh tyres. Or both stay out (but ultimately both end up on the track together but on older tyres)

I think the race director would have probably followed the rules and felt under less pressure to make a fast and loose decision on the restart because of the extra laps available.

So all lapped cars allowed to pass the safety car and then a final lap .... same result.

So I think there would be a lot of people dissatisfied and the regulations surrounding the Safety Car would be moaned about.

But the result wouldn't have been questioned on the day if MV won on that final lap.

Had the incident and safety car been earlier, MB may well have pitted Lewis.

I'd flip a coin.

The reason is that the result and WDC are at stake - so in reality nobody will want it changed.

But you can also make a very clear and precise case that the regulations were violated and that last lap has to be discounted.

So rock and a hard place for F1.

I think the result of this race was wrong. So in that sense Sir LH was robbed by incompetence of the F1 setup.

But I won't consider MV tainted by a decision made by others when the season was so close that he and Sir LH were on equal points and so far ahead of the rest of the field both on the tracks and in the WDC.

If the result is overturned I won't consider MV robbed.

If the result stands then I will consider MV a worthy WDC. (though I'll reserve the right to comment on his driving attitude!). MV is outstanding.
It can’t be considered anything else but tainted as without the decision made by the stewards he wouldn’t have won the WDC.
I repeat it wasn’t his fault but until the decision he was out of it

Indeed.

And I think Nico Rosberg suggested that under the regulations and on the lap at which the SC came out then MB made the right decision not to pit LH - except then the regulations were disregarded.

If it was that obvious and you managed to see that from your tv screen then I’m sure that the lawyers from Mercedes will chew up the race director and spit him out.

Your're quoting something I don't recall posting.

If Masi hadn’t allowed a selection of lapped cars to pass the safety car, then the safety car could have simply pulled into the pit lane at the end of Lap 57, Lewis would have got away at the front and Max would have had one lap to chase him down. Might have made it, might not. By letting some cars go past and then Max to catch up, Lewis was a sitting duck. Total screw up by Masi.

Yes, when the safety car went out, Masi said that lapped cars would not overtake the safely car. Given that, there was no need for MB to pit LH for fresh tyres.

When that decision was changed, that option had been taken away.

All I can say if I was L H tonight I would be very unhappy. ( but truth be told I am not his biggest fan ) but fairs fair. To more or less wipe out a 12 second lead is a bit much .

My missus works for William Hill, she's come home for her lunch break and said a message come up on their computers at work not to pay out on any formula 1 bets until further notice.

Logical given the way the regiulations are given.

I wonder how long it will take for this to get resolved.

I would also have some sympathy for MV at the moment as well - while this is all up in the air

It won't. They'll keep kicking the can down the road until next season starts then claim statute of limitations.

Maybe it's all part of a plan to increase viewership (is that a word?).

After a stewards enquiry LH gets given the race & we watch with interest the disbelief, anger & then fury on MV & CH's faces as they go apoplectic live on TV. People in orange tee shirts wail on the streets.

MV, CH & Red Bull supporters (& all of Holland) now hate LH, TTW & Mercedes with an undying passion & vow to seek revenge next season when F1 resembles dodgem cars. LH has the good sense to retire & bugger off somewhere warm & sandy.
