Formula One 2018 - General Thread

After a bit of an impulse decision I'm off to Austin for the weekend - haven't been to a race since Silverstone 2015 and not at Austin since 2012, so really looking forward to it. I think Hamilton will wrap up the title this weekend but fingers crossed for a good race. The weather forecast is variable with light rain on Saturday and 'sprinkles' on Sunday whatever that means. Oh and I think I'll give the Bruno Mars & Brittney Spears concerts a miss and search out proper music downtown

I’m green with envy sir.

Enjoy the weekend. Lots of pics on your return please. :)

SV has a 3 place grid penalty. It'll be worth watching for the almost inevitable collision with Verstappen.

The circumstances of the “penalty” seem to be under some debate. With the usual claim & counter claim. I read it and ended up more confused than I was prior to doing so. It seems the penalty was issued for the time taken to slow down and NOT for not slowing or not slowing enough. SV claims that had be thrown on the anchors to slow down as quickly as was required he could have caused an accident.

I don’t expect the decision to change but it is a shame that these things are decided over a coffee and cake and not on the race track.

I agree. From the on-board video, it looks like SV did nothing dangerous. He did lift, but the stewards are saying something like it took him 27 seconds to get down to the correct speed. Unfortunately, because they've already penalised drivers over this issue, they haven't left themselves much wiggle room for this particular ruling. Had they not penalised SV, then everyone would have been on the band wagon about how things apply differently to Ferrari.

Shame Leclerc wasn't penalised for being an idiot and spreading gravel all over the track to cause the red flag in the first place.

Seb didn't do much wrong but you can't change the rules to suit a driver or the championship. Rules probably need revising but this has just sealed the championship this season

I would love to go to this race, I hope it comes up to expectations.

My normal day when F1 is on is to shut myself in the lounge set TV to UHD, keep the cats out and relax.

Tomorrow we have tickets to see ELO at O2 and a night at the intercontinental.

I will do my best not to see the result and hopefully when I get back Monday relax and watch the race.

Some Magnussen fans - although ‘suck my balls’ T-shirts would have been the icing on the cake...

Current F1 cars through the esses here - just wow, you forget how brilliant they are close up. Much better noise too

Even Fernando’s car looks quick - it is, obviously but so much energy

Verstappen exceeds track limits and breaks his rear suspension on a sausage kerb in Q1, thus depriving us of the amusing spectacle of Vettel trying to get past him on lap 1.

Very close qualifying.
Another pole for LH:banana:
