Garden waste collection ... you couldn't make it up

Our recycling bins take plastic / glass / metal all mixed together. It's only paper/card that is collected separately, although shredded paper has to go in the garden waste!

At our previous house paper & card went in the recycling bin but glass didn't
our shredded paper has to go in the recycling bin - but contained in a plastic bag :doh:

We were told that 80% of UK councils charge for garden waste collection now, so it's probably just a matter of time. It's also not a service they're obliged to provide (unlike food waste collection), so they could just withdraw it if costing them too much.
Thinking about it I’m very lucky as the local authority for our other house doesn’t charge for collecting garden waste either.

Locally everyone uses the garden waste bin, although that’s possibly because it’s included in the council tax, however most people have 2-4?garden waste bins and they’re almost all out on every collection day - taking so much to the recycling centre would be a pain for most people and probably worth sacrificing a take at or two a year if it is charged for in future.

Only ever have privet cuttings, so bag up and take to tip. Just been to ours which is very well organised with level access to skips. Any other garden waste goes in compost bin which I'll give to keen gardeners as we don't use much ourselves

Our leftie lot have decided to charge for this now at £30 pa (for the time being). As we only use it about 8 times a year I’ll be giving it a pass and put the garden waste in the general waste bin. Feckers get enough off me with very little return on show

Round our way if they spot garden waste in the general bin they refuse to take it. Honestly

We had a 2week delivery time when I ordered our garden bin, as it took 3 months to come they told me to put it in the general waste bin till I got it delivered

Same here:

Please don't put garden waste in your general waste bin as this is taken to our energy recovery facility, which can't accept garden waste. Your general waste bin won't be emptied if it contains garden waste.

nd put the garden waste in the general waste bin
Oh my god, do you actually do that. Hang your head in shame. Actually that's what I do. I just make sure the bags are under the general waste bags. We are a couple of rebels:banana:

I see what you did there.
